I tuned in to THE OFFICE at 7:30, so I'm not sure exactly what new material, if any, there was to be found in THE RETURN (other than the "I've been sent to anger management" stuff, of course). But I *DID* stick around to catch the pilot episode of Andy Richter's new show ANDY BARKER P. I.
Good stuff. Very good stuff. Lots of promise. I really enjoyed ANDY RICHTER CONTROLS THE UNIVERSE, and weeped openly at his second, much MUCH lamer show QUINTUPLETS. So naturally, I am glad to see his return to quality TV comedy. Say what you will about NBC, but they are leading the league in quality SMART comedies right now. Nice work, guys. ANDY BARKER's cast is also fantastic, especially Tony Hale (a.k.a. Buster Bluth from ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT) as Andy's mini-mall video clerk neighbor. I have a feeling that like 30 ROCK, this show will most likely tank in the ratings because people just arent... well, I don't want to be a snob, but dammit, what does it take for hilarious shows to get watched these days? If you missed the first episode, iTunes was offering the pilot as a free download.

Heck yeah, I loved the black and white cookie scene! That really sold me on the show. It reminded me of the Seinfeld quote, \\\"Oh look Elaine, the black and white cookie. I love the black and white. Two races of flavor living side by side. It\\\'s a wonderful thing isn\\\'t it?\\\"

The adding of the art show and the removal of Jim\\\\\\\'s plea to Ryan definitely made this more of a Jim/Pam episode. I didn\\\\\\\'t realize how much I missed Andy. It will be interesting to see how he is reintegrated back into the show. These two episodes really do go together well and the slow-burn of Andy was great. And there probably hasn\\\\\\\'t been better timing of an audio que ever on tv before Andy\\\\\\\'s burning rage with Michael and the the cut to his phone ringing. Such as a great moment!

Tim Raines was an excellent outfielder for the Montreal Expos and New York Yankees in late 80s-early 90s. I really liked \'Andy Barker,\' too. Very clever parody of detective shows from the 70s and 80s. Tony Hale was hilarious. I watched that \"newpeat\" in between breaks of the Michigan State-Marquette basketball game, and thought the original deleted scenes were better than anything used in this mash-up. Though Pam\'s subplot about winning an art contest was kind of sweet (with a nice Jim-Pam moment). Ultimately, it all seemed like a lot of trouble just to get that \"anger management\" scene out to the masses. (I apologize for not passing that along at the watercooler, Greg Daniels. If only I didn\'t bring my own water to work...)
