Episode # 9.0 of THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID finds both Matt and Ian locked in the conference room of life, just trying to finish the Junior Jumble. Gird your loins folks, there's a fox in the henhouse, and his name is Martin Nash... this hardened ex-con is spreading his anti-office propaganda, and Michael refuses to stand for it... and not just because he's black. Do the jammers in the room have reason to celebrate, or is jim just being a dick? The very worst thing about this episode of TWSS? The dementors. They hoit! ian: don\'t drop the soap! sorry but i can\'t give up any \"trade secrets\" on those wacky/suspicous mashed potato \"chips\" or i might get canned...not really, i just don\'t have an answer! lol! nomi: if you or your mom are ever in northern va, gimme a holla and i\'ll hook you guys up with some tj goodies! :) (we only get a 10% employee discount...lousy corporate wet blankets...so, its on the house!)

(ian: even though i\'m the store\'s artist, its still a \"requirement\" to sample the store\'s products...including wine! oh, those are the days to look forward to! so far, no lampshades on my head. ) so is the next podcast going to be longer than usual? i hope so (hint, hint) since we will be devoid of the office for the next few weeks. at least they\'re not waiting until february like certain shows (*cough* lost! *cough*) that are starting to really test my patience! (yes, only recently has it begun to test my patience). we should start a starbucks fund for matt...although the podcast is funnier when he\'s in a punchy mood. matt, you crack me up when you go into your rants on the podcast! its almost like you\'re \"prison matt\"...just don\'t call ian a \"bee-yotch\"! :-D
-
nomi: i make shelf signs for products, the large endcap chalkboards at the end of the aisles, any other type of sign for the store that needs lettering or illustration and every now and then i get to do some painting. its a pretty cool job and great for me because i love drawing and i\'m a student and they\'re usually pretty good about working around my classes. sorry guys, i sound like an endless recruitment ad or something! if anyone has any questions about the store or just wanna shoot the breeze e-mail me at eortiz@gmu.edu--i\'m always happy to chat! :)
-
Matt won\'t call me a \"bee-yotch.\" We\'ve already established that I\'m \"da belle o\' da ball.\" (Or was that just me who tried to establish that...?) And notice Elisa avoided my question about potatoes that are mashed, yet also chips? My Spider Sense is tingling...
-
Elisa, Yeah, actually, ginger helps relieve nausea -- so there you go! Next time, choose ginger. ;) (I drink ginger ale when I\'m sick, and eat ginger chews.) Of course I love Toby! He\'s the best! I just love how dead pan he is -- it\'s a perfect palate for all the other kooky characters.
-
I\'m just finally listening to the podcast and I wanted to chime in with a bit that you may have missed - the Prison Mike persona that Michael acts out is a riff on an old documentary called \"Scared Straight\". He references the title in the beginning of his schtick to help reinforce that this is where it\'s coming from. It was a documentary about some guys in prison actually talking to kids who were in juvi and headed down the wrong path in an attempt to help clean them up and deter them from a life of crime. You can read more about it on wiki here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scared_Straight%21 Or your library may have it on old vhs.

I\\\'ll jump onto the \\\"I Love Trader Joe\\\'s!\\\" pile. Been spending a lot of money there lately. (And not just in the wine section.) That Lemon-Ginger-Echinacea juice is the shit, yo. And I\'m addicted to those Honey Sesame Snacks. Okay, this is becoming a commercial...
-
Elisa, I LOVE Trader Joes! I personally would say that Toby is like ginger ice cream. (Ginger ice cream, if you\'ve never had it before, is basically Ginger Beer in ice cream form. It is amazing. I think I like it even better than Chocolate -- well, no, I can\'t go that far, but it is a very close second.) Or maybe he\'s Kulfi (an Indian ice cream.) Ah, Toby. The joy you bring into our lives.
-
Ginger ice cream is the best! (You\'re talking about ice cream, I had to post.) I wonder if Mr. Leiberstien is more animated in real life. Yeah, I realize he\'s \"acting\" like the human version of a morphine drip, but maybe he\'s just as mellow in real life. . . Hmmm
-
Ian, the red bean ice cream I\'m thinking of was made at that ice cream shop I told you I worked at run by the Chinese couple who\'d come here via Hawaii. (\"Free lei with every quart.\") They made it very chalky and not sweet. Most people couldn\'t stand it. I adored it. When the angry mean wife was not there, I ate pints of it.
-
i work at \"trader joe\'s\" which is a kind of specialty grocery store chain and we sell this chocolate green tea ice cream....its one of the most disgusting things i\'ve ever had...and i LOVE ice cream! i would say flenderson is more like turkey hill philidelphia style neapolitan ice cream which is awesome. i just had a big bowl right now. love to end my day with a hearty bowl of \"toby\"!

Matt, Ian - Great podcast! Got sent in through filmspotting as well. A quick point on 9: I\'d have to disagree that discussion of race, gender or sexuality is \"getting old\" on the show. Personally, I find the fact that they address these topics to be surprising refreshing, and although - yes, there are times when they wildly exaggerate things for the sake of humor - there have been times when some of the show\'s depictions that revolve around race, gender or sexuality that appear on the show reflect real life situations I have witnessed or experienced in the office I work in, which are of course just as awkward, if not more so, because its happening in RL. In fact, I really can\'t think of another show on Network TV right now that explores these issues in as smart as funny a way as The Office is doing now. Anyway, keep up the good work, I intend to hang around a bit and listen to future episodes of your podcast.
-
Hey Guys, Another great one this week, but two points of contention... 1. Do you think that the reason you are so dissapointed with the office on your first viewing is simply that you ARE expecting too much? I\\\'m not sure how you watch, I know when I have to review something I sit with a pen and a paper and take notes etc. Do you do that Matt? What\\\'s your process? Hahhhh -- I feel like I am back in acting school - anyways, I am curious how you approach it - because I watch hoping it\\\'ll be a good enough episode and I was crying I was laughing so hard... maybe it\\\'s because I am just that much younger than you? I donno... 2. I think that this episode was awesome, again just so great --- I agree with everyone that it was strange that Martin left so quickly - however, there\\\'s only 20 minutes in a show... I love Prison Mike & I laughed very hard at the Dementors line. I think it\\\'s one of those things that like \\\"how much effort has Michael put into this \\\'sketch\\\' before he unleashes it on the office.\\\" something like the dundees seems like he rehearses it in his house - but prison mike is much more improv - and what\\\'s the worst thing? Well maybe the Dementors because that\\\'s the first thing that pops into his head. It was also likely a shout out to the UK\\\'s own JK Rowling... Anyways - great podcast - keep \\\'em coming :)
-
spot on observations once again, gentlemen...with the exception of a few things here and there but still another awesome/entertaining podcast. i was cracking up when matt said toby was the human equivalent of a morphine drip! that\'s why he cracks me up, though. that monotone voice and how he\'s so deadpan. i love how he always trails off when he\'s talking (like \'casino night\'---\"is that enough? should i keep...going...\") yes, he\'s vanilla, but then again, i wouldn\'t mind being the whipped cream on that sundae if ya know what i mean.
-
This is appropo to nothing in the podcast (mostly because I just loaded it onto senor pod) but after pursuing the Jam/Pim/HalpEesley videos on youtube, I think it would be amusing to make one to the tune of \"I Got a Man\" by Positive K. Especially if when Positive K talks about getting a ragamuffin, someone edits in a quick pic of Katie. Or even Karen, if it were to be made by a diehard Team Pammer.
-
Seriously off-topic -- Zach, you mentioned this in another thread, but I thought you\\\'d have a better chance of seeing it here: It\\\'s REALLY weak that Michigan isn\\\'t playing for the national championship. They got screwed, man - and I get more pissed off the more I think about it. Matt and I were actually recording the podcast while the match-ups were announced, and I figured Florida had been chosen since my phone wasn\\\'t ringing and I didn\\\'t have to run off and play Lil\\\' Sportswriter. Carry on.
-
great podcast guys. I didnt understand what andy was singing until it went into the actual kermit the frog version on ur podcast. Gotta laugh out of that one. And I didn\'t get the sense they were teasing him about the prison being better than dunder mifflin ethier. To me it did sound like it was better. Really nice to see some pranks again. The pranks are by far my favorite jam/ halpeasly moments. And Ian. I\'m more into pro football (GO EAGLES) but florida definately should have the chance to play osu. They have a tougher schedule, conference, and michigan already gotta shot at osu.
-
Great podcast, guys. The Apollo Creed \"Ain\'t gonna be no rematch\" line was crazy-funny. Thanks for the mention of my post. I just wish it was for a comment I still agreed with. After rewatching the episode, I pretty much changed my mind on my own comment. Still, it\'s nice to get \"published,\" even if the point made is widely discredited.

Listened to podcast and in regards to the Martin quitting, sometimes things are just too uncomfortable to stay with. If you\'ve ever had to work in an environment, especially a new one, where your coworkers and your boss are going to constantly think of you as a convict and go through grossly inappropriate means to make you feel \"welcome,\" why would you stay there. Not to make this a racial issue, but it really sucks being one of the only black guys in an office and now you\'re the black guy and a convict? Is it really that hard to understand why he quit?
