After a couple of OFFICE cast related flops this Summer, I'm still holding out hope for Steve Carell's slightly more subdued turn in "Dan In Real Life." The first full length trailer dropped this week, and it looks like it could go either way. What do you guys think? Hidden gem, or another dud?

It looks a bit treacly to me, although I would agree that the presence of Juliet Binoche does lend it some cred. Still, hasn\'t every bit of humor been wrung out of the situation where the dad is all nervous and protective when his daughter starts dating? The fact that they went to it twice just in the trailer doesn\'t bode well... Then again, I\'m a big pill about mainstream movies in general and anything that looks like a romantic comedy someone might describe as \"cute\" in particular :-)

Don\'t mean too sound too much like a girl but this movie seems more sincere and heartfelt than Carell\'s other movies, especially the part about Steve liking Dane\'s girl. It should reach out to more audiences but Touchstone has got to advertise it some more. Too much Michael Scott in Carell\'s movies though.

I think this looks like a good movie. Of course it could be way to cheesy. Only time will tell. Also I would like you all to come visit my office related forum at http://maxtheman526.proboards98.com/index.cgi. It\'s very new and doesn\'t have much to it yet, but just create a account and check it regularly as I will update it often. Thanks!

i saw the trailer in theaters and i automatically thought it looked light-years better than evan almighty. i\'m pretty excited to see steve carrell play a dad, though i hope it doesn\'t turn out to be completely cheestastic. i will admit that having dane cook in it makes me want to see it more (i can\'t help myself, he\'s so pretty...) but i think i will actually see this in theaters, which doesn\'t happen a lot for me. plus, the guy who plays his other brother was in the Broadway version of Wicked, so i\'m kind of excited to see him too. there were some postings on IMDB from people who saw a screening of it... very mixed.
