Despite what we all originally thought, Ricky Gervais did NOT come up with the idea for THE OFFICE on his own. In fact, he was inspired by a little seen Japanese comedy. Video of the original version surfaced on the web today, and it's definitely well worth a look!

So I asked my Japanese sister-in-law and brother to translate it and here\'s what my brother had to say: \"Its hard to translate all of it. Michael calls himself the funniest boss in all of Japan (what\'s written on his cup) Pam says hello thanks for calling dunder mifflin this is pam. After Jim pulls the stapler in the jello incident, michael comes out and asks whats going on and then everyone just bows and says sorry over and over. The \"Regis Phillban\" does a commerical for Princess tampons lol. Michael says I\'m your regional manager, then Dwight calls himself the regional manager and michael corrects him to assistant to the regional manager, and then asks why he\'s even there. Then they do the \"radio calistenics\" (its a radio program that is broadcast every morning and many japanese bosses or some one else delegated will lead everyone in listening to the program and doing the exercises.) Then in the talking head with Pam, she refers to someone(can\'t make it out) and says they are worrying over everyones health. Then michael hurts himself and tells dwight \"I\'m fine.\" Michael is then reflecting saying \"Today was good. We did good work. Do you think so?\" Then holds up his bobble head saying \"hai hai hai\" (yes yes yes) in agreement. Then micahel is singing karaoke (very popular to do with your work fellows) and dwight says kanpai (cheers) and hands micahel what I presume is sake(rice alcohol). Then the end words I think translate to \"After all that\'s how it was\" -- Producer or something kinda a like -Fin.\" Ha ha!
