Episode # 125 of THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID finds both Matt and Kevin enjoying a delicious watercress sandwich. When Andy throws a garden party at Schrute Farms in a 2-for-1 attempt to impress both his dear old dad AND Robert California, you just gotta know this isn't going to work, don't you? I mean, anyone? Still, poor AndyÉ it's not everyday you get outsung AND disrespected by the guy who starred in Tales of the Gold Monkey. Add in a sycophantic Gabe, a baby naming war, the return of Kevin's toupee, and the most ridiculous Jim/Dwight prank ever, and you've got one big hairy mess. And goats. Lots and lots of goats. Jacob, THANK YOU! This whole Angela pregnancy thing is a sham! Have we seen the Senator since last season? Was anyone in the office invited to the wedding? Let's face it. Angela found out about the gayness, shut down the wedding, and made up a baby to keep face! She's not going to be able to keep this up! I'm waiting for the fit to hit the shan! I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks this.

I respectfully disagree with Matt about the rewriting of Andy. In my opinion, Garden Party does add some depth to his character for the exact reasons Matt sees inconsistencies. My interpretation of Andy's singing off-key was being due to intimidation. If anything, his dad's behavior is exactly why Andy overcompensates with proving he can sing; it's the same reason he beats us over the head with his Cornell degree. Andy Bernard is an insecure person, with an inferiority complex due to his father. It's the same reason he pined for Michael's approval. The biggest consistency about Andy has been his search for approval: his father, Michael, Big Tuna, Angela, Erin, Robert California. He's always been an eager, overcompensating character, desperate for validation. His implosion during the duet was because of that very element. It was the one area where he thought he could impress, and that same ambition is exactly why he flopped: he was out of his element. Andy Bernard is a great singer/musician when not compared to someone more accomplished. When on his own, it's easier to bypass the aw-shucks, "ri-dit dit-dit da-doo" Andy-isms. Next to better performers, he's a cartoon. Also, as Matt said, his dad was probably just being a dick. By the way, we did get a minor callback to Andy's anger management with his little storm-off. Perhaps emphasizing on that struggle in future episodes might add a little more meat to the building on his character. Matt & Kevin are definitely right about it being time to stop with the "Everybody Loves Nard Dog" endings though. Garden Party was a little too soon after The Incentive for them to quickly run back to that. If they really want to give Andy something to grow on, he needs to stand-up to characters that aren't obvious antagonists. The Darryl confrontation from Lotto was very human. It wasn't Dwight or Robert California, characters that are easy to stand up to. At some point, Andy will need to go toe-to-toe with Jim. Like old TWSS episodes have pointed out, Jim's a dick. At some point, the manager will have a run-in with him. And that's where I think the show will find a new opportunity for great writing. It'll force them to not rely on old beats and rhythms (ie: the Garden Party & Incentive endings.)

I was just watching this episode again, and i got weirded out when Angela said the Senator was grossed out by her bigger cup size. Do you think maybe that was an accidental slip, because she's already found out his secret,is working on annulling their marriage, and then faked a pregnancy to make people think things are okay? Is she going to adopt a baby? One can only hope good old Mr. Schrute will hop in to save the day for M(r)s. Martin.

Great podcast as always. For me the Mose payoff was pretty good. It's sort of a jump the shark reference, so I thought that aspect of it was ironically funny. The Jim/Dwight thing - I'm glad to see some pranking back. Jim with all his free time not being manager of course has time to self-publish a book and sell it online. And btw, my 6 year old has self-published a book, it's really, really not hard to do. I agree that Gabe has the best bits in this episode. They're using him really well so far this season. He's sort of the new Toby isn't he. :) In general I'm an Andy lover, so I like the way this new season is going. I loved Michael Scott more, but I'll settle for Andy any day. I think they'll get the grove going better as the episodes go on. And to encourage you to keep podcasting, I just pre-ordered my kindle through your Amazon link. :)

I was really surprised that Matt was okay with the cold open. In my opinion, it was so ridiculous that I was willing to accept the Jim prank or at least until Dwight started screaming out people's names. If Jim's prank was a Zen moment than the Billboards were super-Zen and really, they didn't even feel like they should have even been in an Office episode. Also, Matt said that the director missed an opportunity with the cold open. A beautiful call back would have Andy stepping in cow crap. It was sort of funny in "Crime Aid", but I think it would have been hilarous as a call back.
