I hereby reiterate my theory that people are crazy :) Andy getting any kind of management job is even less likely than me seeing Lorne Michaels at Wal-Mart. Seriously-- maybe you can tell me how people who espouse the \\\"andy\\\" theory have any evidence to justify it? :) It\\\'s just another theory I\\\'m throwing into the mix! I\\\'m not saying that I believe it. AND I\\\'m not crazy (except for when I\\\'m at work). Maria - Records Tech (my \\\"official\\\" title)

This is first time I\\\'ve listened to this podcast and I have to say its pretty awesome. I love how you guys aren\\\'t completely enamoured of the show that you can\\\'t consider some of its flaws and while I don\\\'t always agree with your opinions, I appreciate the criticism.

I don\\\'t think Pam was pranking Dwight, she was pranking the rest of the office by supporting Dwight. At that point I think she dislikes most of her co-workers more than Dwight (as she said at the lake) and she knows supporting the Dwight regime will be highly entertaining.
-
Brettson -- That\\\'s a great take on Pam\\\'s \\\"secret assistant to the regional manager\\\" tenure. I think I\\\'ll follow along with you. And no, while watching Roger Clemens, all I could think about was how much I hate Clemens and the New York Yankees. Even though the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees are the official team of TWSS.
-
Matt -- I just re-read my post about pranking and it sounds like I\'m disagreeing with you when actually, I meant to agree with you and what you\'ve been saying in the podcasts all along. *sigh* I really should learn to proof read for clarity. :) Nomi -- After having been raised in a family who loves practical jokes and showing their love by teasing, I\'ve learned to just shrug it off and find the fun in it all. :) I totally see your point of view, though. If I really think about all the stuff Jim/Pam do to Dwight, they really are kinda mean. Because I have nothing better to do, I was thinking about the Jim/Pam relationship and I\'m so curious how they\'re going to play it out! How many of their co-workers are going to put two and two together and figure out that Jim came back sans Karen to basically ask Pam out? Will the newly outspoken, honest Pam tell everyone starting with Phyllis and/or Kelly or is this something she\'d keep to herself? Before season 3, I thought they\'d hook up and try the secret romance thing, but now I\'m not so sure. Would anyone in the office really care? Oh, well, Michael would and I can just see himself taking all the credit for it too. Ha ha. And when, oh when will anyone other than Jim and Pam find out about Dwight and Angela? I\'m DYING to see the scene where they have to go to Toby and disclose all. That is all. For now.
-
Nomi: \"OK, first, Ian. You would have been satisfied if they left it with \'wrong place, wrong time\'? Man, where\'s your heart?\" In a cold box, my friend. Perfectly chilled. Hayden: \"You were right Ian, Cleveland got a win. But that will be the only one.\" I hope you\'re right. The Pistons really need to win tonight if they want to make this a short series. Melonie: \"I\'m DYING to see the scene where they have to go to Toby and disclose all.\" Oooh, I\'d like to see that, too. Poor Toby. Maybe he\'ll play Dunder Ball with Jim\'s head.
-
I think Pam \\\"pranking\\\" Dwight is in the vein of - playing along to find out the inner workings of his nerdy fantasy world. Maybe this \\\"prank\\\" doesn\\\'t harm or embarrass him now, but like Jim\\\'s faxes from the future, it gives ammo for future prankage. Does that make sense?
-
Finally listened today. OK, first, Ian. You would have been satisfied if they left it with \\\"wrong place, wrong time\\\"? Man, where\\\'s your heart? For the love of God . . . Oh, and then Matt lumped all us \\\"dusty room\\\" people (apparently including himself) into the mainstream. They had to satisfy the \\\"mainstream audience.\\\" I beg your pardon? Why, I\\\'ve never been so insulted . . . Otherwise, another great podcast, guys.
-
But, you know, as I\\\'m thinking about the whole thing now, part of what\\\'s always bugged me about Jim pranking Dwight is that the target was just too easy. I mean, is it really fun to prank someone who falls for everything? In that scene in Conflict Resolution, I remember feeling like that was maybe part of Jim\\\'s (quickly forgotten) realization.

I just got my very own season 1 DVD from the NBC sale (yeah, I know. I can\'t believe I didn\'t own it sooner either) and many interesting things occured to me, which is making me super excited for the proposed summer podcasts from Matt and Ian. Specifically about pranking, though, it\'s been said in many of the podcasts over this season that since Dwight has been humanized more the pranks were less funny and more mean spirited. While watching season 1 I never felt that way. The stuff Dwight did to Jim would have absolutely pushed me over the edge (hanging up on Jim\'s biggest client, for example.) so the pranks, while still arguably mean were an alternative to losing it and doing something wretched.
-
I didn\\\'t mean that Pam did Dwight any harm at all, just that she behaved toward him the way Jim would have and it didn\\\'t really fit the definition of a prank. He obviously was able to go mad with power and make all the office workers think he was nuts without any help from her...
-
Okay, okay -- well, to clarify, the part of what Pam did that struck me as just like Jim was when she responded to his proposal -- \\\"so what you\\\'re saying is...\\\" -- she almost looked like she was doing an impression of him at that point. Whether she supported Dwight or not, I can\\\'t believe she ever though his new brand of leadership was going to go over well, and she seemed highly amused by the whole thing. But you\\\'re right -- she didn\\\'t handle the whole thing like Jim would have, and that nice moment they had at the end was unlike anything that would have transpired between Dwight and Jim.
-
Andy -- I don\\\'t know what they charge for tickets in Chicago, but I\\\'d like to think it\\\'s a bit cheaper there. I think I paid $35 for my ticket, and I was up in the balcony. Was it worth it? Probably not, though I enjoyed the experience because I like the show. If you\\\'re a fan, it\\\'s fun to see how they do everything.
-
A couple more things -- Karen calling Pam a bitch -- obviously, Pam is not being a bitch to Karen -- she\'s being pleasant and reasonable. The last thing you want from your romantic adversary is pleasant and reasonable. I adore Pam in this episode and I want Jim with her, not Karen, but I can\'t fault Karen for anything she says or does here. I think anyone in her position would have behaved the same way, or even worse. I also enjoyed the scenes between Dwight and Pam -- as for whether it was a prank or not, it seemed to me that Pam was simply playing the situation exactly as Jim would have done. Both of them know when to just give Dwight enough rope to hang himself. The only thing I wondered was, how realistic was it for Dwight to put so much trust in Pam when only two episodes earlier, she\'d drawn the parking lot flasher to look exactly like him? He must have been mighty impressed with her coal walk!
-
Chris -- Ouch, babe. That hurt. If only it weren\\\'t so #@$%ing true. I don\\\'t suppose I can save face by saying I\\\'m also a Michigan football fan? Oh, and to Hayden: I\\\'d be shocked if the Pistons sweep the Cavs. I think LeBron will get at least one in Cleveland. Your regularly scheduled Office/podcast talk will now continue, already in progress.

Great podcast, guys! Thanks for an awesome season. I\\\'m so glad you will be doing some retro podcasts from Season 1 -- conveniently, my kids gave me the DVD for Mother\\\'s Day :-) Regarding the question of Jan\\\'s firing (shouldn\\\'t she have known and shouldn\\\'t we have seen more evidence that she was screwing up?) -- just getting us to believe Michael would still be employed after all the fireable offenses he\\\'s committed over the course of the series requires a healthy suspension of disbelief, no? If I can believe that Michael would be up for a promotion and Dwight not only doesn\\\'t scare the crap out of any customers with whom he comes into contact but is the Scranton branch\\\'s best salesperson, I can believe they would fire Jan for job performance and promote Sweet Cheeks over all the other qualified and more senior candidates :-)
-
I\'m listening right now.... good to hear you guys again. Been waiting to get your take on THE JOB! I think that in Season 4 we will see Jan in the same light as David Brent when he was fired/ made redundant..... I think she will be a frequent visitor to the Scranton office - acting as though she was still an employee, interacting with customers, hanging out and interfering in business deals. This sets her up for some great interaction with Ryan too.... I just can\'t imagine that they will leave her at home in stretch pants. Any thoughts??
-
Aimee -- It was a fun evening. I enjoyed putting faces to names, and watching how they did the show. Patti -- I should\\\'ve gotten my drink on before the show, but went straight from my car to the Michigan Theater. Had I been at the Red Hawk, however, you would\\\'ve seen a beardless man with shorter hair. I shed my mountain man look about a month ago. But maybe we\\\'ll bump into each other over the summer. Just say hi to anyone and everyone who looks like me, and I\\\'m sure you\\\'ll get to me eventually. Kerry -- I like that idea for Jan, and I think you\\\'re right. I\\\'m sure she\\\'ll be popping by the office all the time. (And no, that wasn\\\'t a reference to her new boobs. C\\\'mon. Pervs.) Have a great holiday, everyone!

Great podcast guys. Thanks! One thought - what exactly is the state of labour law in the US? In my, socialist-infested, country, you\\\'d be looking at a major employment dispute if you were arranging to appoint someone to a job whose current occupant you hadn\\\'t fired yet (firing is not that straight forward here either). As maligned as Dunder-Mifflin\\\'s HR guys are, perhaps managers like Michael or David Wallace should check issues like this past them once in a while? Kendall!!
-
OMG - Ian we were at Wait Wait too! Did you have dinner at the Red Hawk? I have probably seen you all over town. Now I am really going to start checking out guys with beards and glasses. I am sure my husband will beleive I am looking for the Office podcaster! See you around.
