Episode # 30 of THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID finds both Matt and Drew taking a chance on a hot circle of garbage. Congratulations! Today is your day. You're off to Great Places! You're off and away! Unless you're Michael Scott, that is. Michael's outside looking in when Ryan fails to find him "I" enough for the Dunder Mifflin Infinity VIP launch party list. What to do but stage a much better, sexier party right there in Scranton? It's not kidnapping if you let him go, right? Will Dwight beat the machines? Will Jim and Pam sneak that pizza? Will Andy get that date with Angela? Will Darryl, in fact, hit that? All *I* can say is: Here Comes Treble for the win! Incidental music provided by the

Thanks for all the great comments and feedback on my co-hosting this week, guys. I really had a great time, and I look forward to another opportunity to help Matt out in the future. Agreed that the prank this week really wasn\\\'t that malicious in nature. My main beef with the way it was executed was how Jim completely blew off Pam\\\'s suggestion that they lay easy on Dwight because of the break up. She asked him to lay low, and he basically told her no. Combining that with the way he completely blew off Michael when being invited over for dinner just led me to believe that maybe we\\\'re going to see Jim go down a story arc of being a jerk this season. Matt makes a very good point when he says that perhaps they humanized Dwight and Michael too much last season for us to get much delight out of their misery.

Re: Jim blowing Michael off for dinner. I can\'t see any normal people/couples (if there are any in the office - Stanley, Phyllis, Oscar?) Jim and Pam would want to socialize with after work, much less Michael. Michael can\'t do anything for very long without getting weird. Look at his behavior at the Dundee\'s. Plus Michael would go over the line about it at work the next day and make the other workers resent Jim for sucking up to Michael. The only time I recall seeing Michael act halfway normal was when he and Jan met Tim Meadows at Chili\'s. This is not a guy you would want to socialize with.

After Andy\\\'s serenade, the closed captioning identified the two voices that sang along with Andy as Michael and Dwight. After their song was over, the two lines that came from Oscar and Kevin\\\'s phones asking what she (Angela) said were identified on screen as being one from Dwight and one coming from Michael. This was probably just an error, but interesting none the less.

Another great episode of TWSS. It\'s one of my 4 or 5 favorite podcasts. (Not in any specific order though.) I think Jim can be a little mean spirited at times. That being said, if someone were to start blowing an air horn in the office I work in, I doubt I\'d have been quite so subtle with my revenge. (I\'m working on a way to get back at a co-worker with a talking \"Easy\" button now. I want to change it to say something else somehow...) I loved, loved, loved the entire sushi scene at the end! The quiet time, stealing the leftovers, leaving the plate on the car, it was terrific. I figure Michael is \"between\" cars at the moment. The Sebring is likely being repaired, the rental is still being dried out, and I doubt his insurance would cover two cars. I fell SO freaking bad for Dwight. I\'m going thru a sort of break up right now, (My situation is more ridiculous than an 80s sitcom though.) so it hits awfully close to home. It would kill me if I had to deal with an Andy situation like that. I\'ve got a feeling things could get a lot worse there. The Simpsons references in the podcast always make me smile. It reminds me of talking with my brother, we can\'t go 5 minutes without quoting that show. Oh! I almost forgot! I accidentally ran across Mose\'s mySpcae page! Here\'s a link: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=148702783 It\'s pretty cool! Apparently Mose is a part of Scrantonicity now. I had no idea!

I don\'t know why this didn\'t dawn on me before, but maybe the reason why Jim hasn\'t had a \"growth arc\" this season is because he is literally back where he started. He physically regressed back to Scranton from Stamford and has mentally regressed to his childish pranks. Whereas Pam has had her emotional growth and is emotionally ahead of Jim--this is true in the real world as well. I think our \"crisis\" with our supercouple will be the conflict between more advanced and more regressed emotional growth, which we got a preview of when Pam was reluctant to prank Dwight. She\'s still in the honeymoon stage of a relationship with the guy she\'s wanted for years. She\'ll try to make the peace for a while but by season\'s end, I predict that this will be their showdown. Then Pam will be 67% more spontaneous! :-) Just a thought.

O.k. I haven\'t had time to read all the comments yet :( but I just finished listening to the \'cast and I just have to say, Matt, that your Spinal Tap reference made me laugh for a good five minutes. Mostly because I just watched Spinal Tap last night and couldn\'t help but picture Nigel telling the writers of The Office to take it to 11. Thank you. I needed the laugh.

While I was listening to the podcast, I laughed out loud yet again during the clip where Jim was mocking Andy and Dwight about the gong. I think Jim pranks Dwight and mocks Andy to his face because that is his personality. Simple as that. I got the feeling on first viewing that was confirmed just by listening to the audio that these things pop out of Jim\'s mouth because he can\'t help himself. He mocks them like he\'s had an annoying kid brother all his life. He\'s so set in his ways and in his life that that kind of stuff just comes out without thinking about it. The only relief from boredom that Jim has in his day is pranking the only co-workers in the office who would care. Jim is stuck in Scranton for only one reason: Pam is the love of his life. SO many guys are there are like Jim and I love his dry, subtle humor and wry look at life. I think Jim reminds me of a taller version of my husband. Great podcast this week guys! I hope we will have a full season of \"The Office\" to discuss. The summer was too long without it.

Another thoroughly enjoyable episode! Kudos to this week\\\'s \\\"junior salesman,\\\" Drew. He did a great job in his co-hosting duties. I have to agree that Jim needs some growth. I believe last season, we saw growth and regression on Jim\\\'s part (I think this was discussed in previous podcasts). I will be so disappointed if the writers don\\\'t give Jim a \\\"growth arc\\\" a la Pam\\\'s last season. As mentioned in the podcast, a great way to do this would be to take Michael out of the picture as boss for a bit, thrusting Jim into a position of authority. Anyway, I love the podcast -- keep up the great work!

To clarify my first paragraph of the previous post - I\'m probably quite a bit older than most all of you. I\'ve been watching sitcoms for many years. Each one of them (Moonlighting, Mork & Mindy, Mary Tyler Moore, etc.) takes you through several seasons before the main couple gets together. Therefore, I\'m enjoying Jim and Pam, together and happy as long as I can.

>BTW, did anyone check out that Deal or No Deal \\\"model\\\'s theater\\\" video? Well, the good news is that if there is an actors strike we can always hire these girls to fill in for a couple episodes of The Office (and, yes, Scrubs). Cause these ladies aren\\\'t actors...

I\'m a 56-year-old guy. I mention that because I\'ve been subjected to many years and many seasons of waiting for a cute couple to get together. I\'m thoroughly enjoying Jim and Pam these first few episodes. They don\'t have to do anything extra for me - just enjoy each other. I thought Pam was cute the first three seasons but her smile this season is incredible. I\'m also thinking of it in terms of acting skills - the ability to portray a person in the middle of a fulfilled love life (for a change) with someone who isn\'t a jerk (like Roy was). Re: comment on the Podcast - I don\'t have trouble being sympathetic with Dwight at times. But he is a jerk quite often and I have no trouble enjoying pranks on him either. I thought Ryan would wind up with Karen. He likes NYC, she likes NYC. I could see her sucking up to an executive to rub it in Jim\'s face. The only problem might be that his character is probably a bit younger than her. Where was Toby in this past episode? I don\'t recall him in the final episode last season either?

Good podcast! And I feel special that you read my post even though the show was running long :-) I can\'t condemn Jim for wanting to prank Dwight in this or any other episode. With Jim, I think you always have to go back to what must be the sheer horror of having to sit there, working in close proximity to someone like Dwight day after day. Once upon a time I worked in an office of about the same size at Dunder-Mifflin Scranton and essentially had Pam\'s job, and there was this woman there who was just pure hell. Everyone in the office knew she was basically completely batshit crazy and no one liked to deal with her anymore than necessary, but I was the only one who had had her as a direct supervisor, and all I can say is that everyone, including the CEO and CFO of the company, cut me *a lot* of slack for putting up with as much crap as I did. After a while, it came to pass that I just felt completely hostile to her no matter what she did, and I suspect that\'s the point Jim is at with Dwight. I love Dwight\'s character and I have come to sympathize with him as a human being too, but we only see him for 21 minutes at a time. Forty hours a week might be trying Also, I just love John Krasinski\'s performance so far this season. Pam seems a bit different than before -- maybe that\'s the \"30% more spontaneous\" she mentioned in the summer vacation spot -- but Jim just seems more Jim, and the way he delivers his lines and his reaction shots are better than ever this season, IMO.
-
I forgot to mention another difference of opinion. Am I the only one who thinks Jenna Fischer is gorgeous when she\\\'s glammed up like she is this season (or in the infamous \\\"seduction scene\\\" in Blades of Glory)? I\\\'d rather date her than Jessica Simpson, that\\\'s for sure. No worries Matt. Just funny that it was so different this time; I was beginning to worry that it wouldn\\\'t be interesting to hear two people with the same opinion. I\\\'ll try to remember to hang out in the chat room this week, too.

I don\'t think Michael had his license revoked( as I\'m sure he would\'ve mentioned it) but maybe the reason everyone else has been driving Michael is that the Seabring needs some work after being partially submerged in a lake. It had to have ruined the seats, and likely other things too. Jan or even Dwight is likely driving Michael to work in the meantime.

Another great TWSS episode. I thought \"Drew\" was great on this episode, though I felt it was ironic that after a couple episodes of basically agreeing with Matt I couldn\'t disagree more on a couple points. a) I kind of liked the Jim and Pam stuff. In particular, I think you\'re way overblowing the Pam/Dwight relationship. I actually liked the way Jim tried to talk sense to Michael but after how many years Jim knows there are times when he cannot talk sense to Michael. I also thought the prank was well-done and thematically consistent with the anti-tech theme this season. Really loved the \"the girlfriend wins\" line. Sexy! 2) Ryan. I LOVE the corporate-speak that Ryan is speaking this year! Agree getting kicked out of the big office was a bit over the top, though. 3) I don\'t agree that it makes sense for Michael to get fired or go to jail. This season is about the downfall of Ryan, not Michael (that\'s my story and I am sticking to it). 4) Yes, Jim was a bit of a dick to Andy, but com\' on. His cheerleader catch-phrases really did need mocking! 5) I\'m not sick of the Cornell stuff, at least in the deleted scene. Anyway, a great episode of TWSS. Congrats to Drew for overcoming technology to appear on the show. Kudos! Zip-a-dee-do-dah! :-)

One thing you guys missed in terms of the strike is that because many of the writers on the office are also actors, they could be absent all together. I don\\\'t know the rules for networks hiring writers but I wouldn\\\'t put it past some shows to hire outside writers in order to keep the shows going. I would hate it if they tried this with this show but I could imagine it working with something along the lines of Three and a Half Men or According To Jim (I know its been canceled but I don\\\'t really know that many generic sit-coms).
-
I think in terms of Jim being a dick towards Dwight in this episode, in the words of Michael Scott \\\"I think you\\\'re over-thinking it.\\\" If I were working in an office and had an overzealous co-worker that yelled at the top of his lungs and blew an airhorn every few minutes, I WOULD want Jim to mess with him. And I wouldn\\\'t say that Jim is dismissive of Dwight\\\'s heartbreak. I\\\'m pretty sure he\\\'s taken that into consideration, even if it was for half a second. It\\\'s just that when your good intentions and pain turn you into noise pollution, that\\\'s when it\\\'s time to go all HAL on him. But I would like to see a rift between Pam and Jim that has to do with Dwight. That maybe Pam tells him to stop pranking him because he was there for her when Jim wasn\\\'t.
