I agree with you, Matt. The over-the-top moments have been a little too much for me. I do miss the smaller funny moments, but I still love this show anyway. I am hoping they will have more small funny moments when they go back to the shorter format. Also, Regis Philbin\'s son-in-law is Mike Schur.

Thanks for the kind words, Sabai! I had a fun time on the episode, so whenever Matt sounds the horn, I\'ll try my darndest to make it on the show. As for \"bitterness\" instead of \"bittersweetness,\" blame it on Dumbledore. Still flabbergasted about that! And I certainly believe it\'s all those beets that led to her non-vegetarian stance. Either that or she\'s on the tofu diet. :)

Regarding Darryl\\\'s last name of Philbin: I happened to catch Steve Carell on Regis and Kelly this morning (the guest host was Jimmy Kimmel with Kelly). Anyway, Steve said that Darryl was given his last name by Regis\\\'s son-in-law, who is on the writing staff of The Office, as an homage to Reege. It almost sounds like something they made up as a joke, but I don\\\'t know why they would since it\\\'s not actually...funny. But in any event, it explains the name, and there IS in fact a Regis connection. Have fun in Scranton, Matt!

Two quick notes: USA Today has a nice article about The Office convention this weekend at http://www.usatoday.com/life/television/news/2007-10-23-office-party_N.htm I caught a rerun of Email Surveillance on TBS last night, and Angela does, indeed, tell Jim she\\\'s a vegetarian. Continuity! Or she really is sick of veggies after all those beets.

Hey, Guys. Loving the podcast, as always. You mentioned in the podcast that this was the first time Darryl Philbin\\\'s full name had been used on camera. However, it was actually the first season episode \\\"Basketball\\\" that we found out Darryl\\\'s full name. In that episode, we were treated to Michael\\\'s convoluted logic in transforming Darrly Philbin into Mr. Rogers.

Hey guys, fabulous \'cast as usual. I had something truly clever and original to say and naturally, I forgot it. I\'ll just have to listen to the \'cast again to remember. (what a shame! ;) ) However, a propos to nothing, I received my very own copy of The Best of The Grass Roots complete with pictures of Creed Bratton in his youth. The music isn\'t bad either if you like 60s music. :)

As for an explanation for Jan\'s spending habits... In the past, we\'ve seen hints at her bipolar tendencies. Many people who have bipolar disorder are prone to spending sprees, against better judgment. I\'ve worked in the mental health field for about 5 years now, and I once worked with a woman who freely admitted that during one of her manic episodes, she impulsively bought a car. This could possibly explain the presence of Jan\'s Porshe.

You guys discuss how Jan can\'t understand how Michael can get into such financial trouble. One theory may have to do with Oscar\'s graph of Michael\'s spending. Remember the scary back PowerPoint bar of things no one ever ever needs, and how huge it was? Jan probably doesn\'t realize Michael spends such a huge amount of money on items like that. She probably figures that with his salary (and with no children - which are a huge expense), he can afford their current lifestyle. One problem with this theory is that he still doesn\'t make much more than Darryl. As to Ryan being overused: Wikipedia notes him as a writer and \"supervising producer\". Sounds to me as if he has quite a bit of clout in determining how often his character will be in the show.

It\\\'s funny you mentioned the Slate article because Salon said the exact opposite (http://www.salon.com/ent/tv/iltw/2007/10/21/the_office/index.html), Heather Havrilesky loves Ryan and his corporate speak. I had a little bit of anticipation for Jim and Pam to get together but it pales compared to my desire to see Ryan get his comeuppance. This was a great episode. Michael\\\'s transformation into the Jim Halpern of his second job was great and it was good to see some quality Oscar.
