Episode # 33 of THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID finds both Matt and Drew enjoying a delicious sack of GORP. Survivor man, survivor man, does whatever a survivor can. When Michael is snubbed by Ryan, he decides to take to the woods, alone, to prove that he's not down with Flenderson's broken mountain lifestyle. Surely nothing could possibly go wrong out there, right? Uhm, RIGHT? Back at the ranch, Jim finds that being the boss isn't all it's cracked up to be when a birthday mutiny pushes him into Michael territory. Damn Phyllis, that's some cold sh-t. Matt, just finished listening to this episode this morning at work. Excellent, as always. A couple things I\'d like to add. The deleted scene where Dwight is offereing up the selection of knives; Michael says something like, \"I get it Dexter.\" Further proof that Michael is all about the television. \"Dexter\" is an excellent adaptation of Jeff Lindsay\'s novels! And it\'s coming to CBS (it was previously on Showtime)! I don\'t quite agree with your assessment of Jim\'s popularity with his coworkers in the office. Other than the party at his apartment where he duets with Michael, and Pam\'s \"nice buns\" comment to Karen in Travelling Salesmen, I can\'t really recall a scene that establishes that everyone else thinks Jim is really cool. I mean, he interacts with other people when they\'re around, but mainly he talks to Dwight, Andy, Pam, and Michael. When Jim hides Andy\'s phone and \"breaks his brain,\" I didn\'t get the sense that anybody else but Pam was in cahoots with him. Phyllis slamming the drawer on Andy in his search for the phone I think was incidental; she just doesn\'t like Andy. At least, that\'s my take on it.

Great podcast as usual. You and Drew were good company on a long flight to Seattle. I think the whole \"should Jim stay or go\" arc seems like a much bigger writing challenge than keeping the magic alive now that he and Pam are together. The show initially aimed to capture the drudgery of office life, the feeling of being trapped in a meaningless job, and the occasional bright spots that get you through it. There really is a difficult tension between allowing the characters to develop, grow, and pursue their dreams while still keeping them in the office and not completely losing sight of the show\'s original premise. It will be interesting to see how the writers handle it (assuming the strike ends). Matt - I absolutely love the terrace scene. Boys and Girls remains one of my all-time favorite episodes because of it.

IF (and I mean if) the writers were to cause conflict between Jim and Pam, I could just imagine the plot twists if Pam were to remain in Scranton and Jim moving to Utica for school. Imagine Pam\'s jealousy. Imagine a situation where Jim and Pam are on the outs and Karen wants to comfort Jim... Re: comments on the podcast as to what branches Jan/Ryan manage - went back to the Casino night episode to see look at a certain scene again. Was surprised to hear Jan tell Michael (on the phone) that his branch is currently number four of the five she manages.

Matt - certainly don\'t expect you to pump out episodes every week if the strike continues. Any excuse you can come up with for more podcasts (without new episodes) is fine by me. Going to miss the podcasts almost as much as the episodes. Thanks for all the effort on both the blog and the podcast.

Great episode, guys! I didn’t get a chance to comment on the actual show’s thread since I watched the episode a little late, but I’m with you, Matt – I thought it was a real highlight. It’s definitely my favorite of the season. I’m sure it helps that I watch “Survivorman? and like it. The parody was just spot-on. I don’t usually go for much of the over-the-top stuff, but I laughed really hard at the shot when Dwight tackled Michael and the video camera went flying. That was the single funniest moment for me in a long time! I loved that everyone was happy to have Michael back in the office, and that he got to be the wise veteran when he talked to Jim at the end. Those are my favorite episodes too – when Michael gets to have a victory, no matter how small. I LIKE to like Michael; he has a good heart, even if he is clueless much of the time. I don’t really think Pam has been condescending towards Jim lately, altho I know you didn’t suggest she was doing it in a really malicious way. I do agree that she might have some foresight about problems that will happen from his ideas, but I think she’s just letting him make his mistakes. Sure, maybe she’s getting some entertainment out of it, but I don’t think there’s any measure of meanness there. Most people don’t like to be told what to do, and maybe she understands Jim well enough to know that he’s not going to listen anyway. Pam is a smart gal! Contrast Pam’s hands-off attitude with how Karen seemed to be a bit controlling, and I think we get a good idea of why Jim & Pam work better than Jim & Karen.

Hi Matt, Love your podcast. Being an avid fan of The Office, I had one little and insignificant nitpick about the discussion revolving around the continuity error on the birthdays and the harkening back to The Alliance. It was Pam who said that there were no birthdays that month...not Angela. Ok - got that off my chest. I am ready to be hated for my anal rententive Office knowledge.

A few things..... First, about Phil\'s comment about Jim maybe going to school in NY sometime in the future. If the strike ends... I think that something like that could happen. I know Paul Liberstein went to Hamilton College which is really not far from Utica (also near Colgate College). Maybe as a writer he would want to re-visit his old school region. Second, in the podcast near the end Matt was talking about Jim either staying at Dunder-Mifflin or finding another job and if Pam would be in support of that.... I was just remembering a scence from season 2, I don\'t recall the episode, where Jim says something to Pam like, \"You don\'t want to be a receptionist forever, do you?\" and she answers \"Excuse me, but I\'m happy with my choices.\" With Miss Fancy new Pam I wonder why she isn\'t starting to look for another job. I know she is doing more of her artwork, but she could easily run that office just as well as Jim or Michael. I just feel like that is another plot line they haven\'t touched in awhile.

Random revelation: For some reason the episode \"The Return\" from Season 3 was on my iPod and I watched it last night. When Michael brought Dwight back to DM after apologizing to him at his Staples job, Dwight was wearing the same Battlestar Gallactica sweatshirt that Michael wore at the end of this week\'s episode. Felt very random. Now we know for sure where that shirt came from. If anyone knows where they can be obtained online, please respond because my husband would love one for Christmas. Thanks!

Great Podcast guys! With almost 15 years at DM, Michael is a true Survivor Man. Jim’s got a new appreciation of that now. I’m really liking where they are going with Jim and Michael this season, too bad its probably going to get cut short. The stuff in the woods was nicely reigned in. I loved how Michael started cutting up his suit – while he was still wearing it. Nice that Dwight was completely at ease in the woods and never even took off his tie. I had to watch in slow-mo to see it, but the blow up doll at Kevin’s B-day party had STACY written on it. Ouch Michael. Maybe it’s because she’s always buttoned up to the neck, but wasn’t Angela showing a little bit more skin than usual this episode? Granted, nowhere near a Jan low neckline, but a little odd for miss priss. There’s an interesting difference between how Pam and Jim handle hypothetical questions from Michael. Both know it means “for real?. Jim toys with Michael by leading him on, then making an excuse when the real question is asked. I guess you could argue Jim is sparing Michael’s feelings, but it sure seems like he just enjoys messing with him. Pam just bluntly shoots Michael down at the hypothetical level, harsh but honest. On The Deposition – this seems like a perfect time for JamaicaJanSunPrincess to come back to haunt Michael. That evidence of Jan’s inappropriate behavior circulated well before they filed their official relationship disclosure. Kazza - Try Scifi.com (Scifi network\'s site.)

Hey Matt ~ over the past week, I\\\'ve started listening to your most recent podcasts . . . really entertaining, insightful and well-done. With the only new episode in the foreseeable future approaching quickly, I\\\'m anticipating going back and listening to your previous podcasts in an attempt to quench my thirst during the dry spell. I can only hope to find you throwing out a \\\"malaise\\\" on occasion. ;) I hope this finds you well. Have a nice upcoming holiday weekend!

Hi Matt. Just listening to the beginning of the podcast now. Another good place to see what the writers are striking for is Jenna Fischer\'s blog. She posted a great blurb about the strike from her estranged husband, who is a screenwriter, on her myspace page. You might be mentioning this in the 3rd segment of the show when you go over Office cast in the media, but I wanted to mention it before I forgot it. But 8 minutes in, it\'s good to hear the podcast. Hey, new spamblocker!

I\\\'m sorry I haven\\\'t been posting lately, Matt, I\\\'ve been in the depths of a show that went completely out of control. I haven\\\'t even seen last weeks episode! I\\\'m going out of town for two weeks tomorrow but I promise after that I\\\'ll post more!! Thanks for the podcast, though. I\\\'ll probably listen to it on my flight even though I haven\\\'t seen the episode. Tee hee.

At the end of the podcast, both of you refer to Jim having an option of leaving DM and going to school in another city. A great plot twist would be for Jim to leave and go to school in Utica. Imagine the plot variations. If the strike is not resolved soon, hope you\'ll keep doing the podcast weekly. It would be bad enough to lose new episodes for a while. If you don\'t continue the podcast, I\'ll probably snap, reach up into a ceiling tile, pull out a weapon and... (iTunes just pulled the podcast down for me last night. Didn\'t have time to listen until almost 24 hours later. That may explain a delay for others commenting as well.)
