Episode # 58 of THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID finds both Matt and Kevin reevaluating their personal drinking habits. Oh come all ye faithful to Michael's first annual Moroccan Christmas intervention. Phyllis hits a home-run as head of the party planning committee, but when Meredith becomes fire-girl (too soon?) Michael takes the twelve steps into his own hands. Dwight makes a bundle of
Christmas cash, Andy plays Sitar Hero, Phyllis spills her beans, and Toby ALMOST earns my sympathy. As my sainted grandmother used to say, if this Christmas is Moroccan, don't come a knockin'! The Office mystifies me. There\'s no likeable characters; the stories are long with nothing really happening; the dialogue is inane; and none of it rings true, ever. If it didn\'t have it\'s false banner of being \"reality\", people would never put up with this stuff on a scripted show. I just wish the characters had some kind of talent or intelligence. Sorry to be a wet blanket, but I just don\'t get it.

> Um... Morocco and India are not the same. > You\'re not pulling a Michael Scott are you? ;-) Kevin, as amusing and probable as that could be (I\'m not always the smartest cookie, ha ha) I actually DO know that they are different countries. :) However my inspiration came from the fact that both countries enjoy bright colors and embroidered fabrics and the brightly colored fabrics on the walls of Dunder Mifflin and in door ways led me to the fabric store yesterday where I purchased many yards of many colors of bright, embroidered Indian fabrics. (By the way, if anyone wants a brightly colored, embroidered skirt after Dec. 26th, let me know. I\'m going to have to do SOMETHING with all this fabric I purchased after my party!) Incidentally, both countries also have amazing food. Thank you, TeacherMatt. I was proud of myself for coming up with that one. ;)

I liked the episode, except the alcoholism plot. The cold open prank was classic, but I would have liked it even more if it had been used as the final scene. Then you would have the prank be a fitting response to Dwight’s grinchy behavior and the episode would have at least ended on an up-note. The ending as it stood was rather bleak. List of disturbing Office images I wish weren’t burnt into my brain: 1.)Andy with nipple chaffing after the Fun Run. 2.)Dwight birthing a watermelon pantless on Michael’s desk. 3.)Meredith attempting to belly dance with a bare midriff.

I just want to laugh at all the people that freaked out thinking that the podcast was going downhill. I think Matt and Kevin have been doing this long enough to know what makes a good podcast!! People are always so eager to be right... it\'s just silly. You just ignore them, Matt! :)

I have a really stupid question. I am fairly new to this podcast and am trying to download old episodes. When I click on the mp3 file that says \"direct download\" it just starts playing in Windows Media and I can\'t figure out how to download the file and put it where I want. I am sure I am missing something completely obvious. Thanks for any help.

Matt I have to agree. The talking head of Dwight repeating what he had just said was not funny to me at all, but redundant. I see how Kevin can see that though. Love listening to the podcast. You guys are on my ipod along with Leo Laporte the tech guy! Does that make you feel special? I also agree with Melonie that Phyllis probably tried to make the theme as un-Christian as possible. Good point, Melonie. Rock on dudes. TeacherMatt is ready for some vacation time!

Kevin C. - you mention that Meredith\'s \"loose\" behavior may have its roots in her alcoholism. The roots may be there but it\'s not behavior that only occurs when she\'s drunk. One of many examples is her looking for her \"hook up\" buddy when they thought the branch was closing a few seasons ago. I don\'t think she was drunk then but I may be wrong. But your comment about the roots may be different than pure behavior. Why did Toby donate the doll to Toys for Tots? Why didn\'t he just sell it and recoup at least some of his money. He could have even sold it back to Darryl (at a loss). (Although he would have to explain to Darryl why he no longer wanted it)

Honestly people, these people are playing a role and laughing all the way to the bank. Of course Dwight and Angela aren\'t really married (legally). Seriously, they probably all are very nice people who are being paid to act otherwise. It\'s not reality... I also have to say that Andy is completely clueless!!! When Dwight said the funniest line on The Office ever...Angela looked at him and her facial expression did not change. I think she actually thought he was serious...or she was trying to figure out if he was. Either way, this girl needs a clue before she winds up like the church lady.

Just a quick question for you guys... Don\'t you find it odd that no one has really mentioned Ryan leaving the office? Don\'t get me wrong, I don\'t miss that (mostly) useless character but I think Michael would have thrown some elaborate party for the \"sexiest person in the office.\" Especially since he was so excited to have Ryan back at the beginning of this season.

Best part of the whole podcast was the Muppets. I love that album! I thought Michael throwing the pen(cil?) at Toby\'s head was hilarious and didn\'t take it at all as a malicious act but rather a spontaneous reaction. I couldn\'t help but wonder why Meredith was so adamantly against going to the rehab center. Surely she knows too that Michael can\'t check her in . . . or does she? Has she had a \'bad\' experience with rehab before? Maybe she checked in a few years ago when she decided to stop drinking . . . on weekdays. ha ha. My co-worker asked me an interesting question today. She\'d missed the first 10 mins of the episode and was wondering where the theme for the C-mas party came from. I told her what Kevin (?) said: that the writers needed new Christmas jokes/material, but then I got thinking about it from a characters point of view and I wonder if it was just another jab at Angela from Phyllis -- making the celebration as un-Christian as possible. I had fun imagining Phyllis sitting down with Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration and trying to come up with the best way to do that while still making an awesome party. I must say, the set dressers gave me some great decorating ideas for the Indian themed birthday party I\'m throwing for myself later this month.

Hey guys Thanks for reading out my comment. To clarify, my Michael comment is just my observation on how far Michael has come as a character over the seasons and that while he\'s still clueless and lacking in the basic social graces of his employees, he has definitely wisened up and matured over the years, particularly this season with Holly. I guess part of the joy that is THE OFFICE in that the characters are constantly evolving and becoming deeper characters, except for Creed, Meredith, Ryan and arguably Kelly.
