It's been four long months, but the season premier is finally upon us! Unfortunately, I am being forced to attend our school's "open house" on Thursday, so I won't be able to see the episode until later in the evening. Feel free to hit the TWSS chatroom, though! Maybe I can coax Ian or Kevin or a few other notables to stop by... From the NBC website: FUN RUN 9/8c TV14 09.27.2007 ![]() THE RUN FOR THE CURE-SPECIAL ONE-HOUR PREMIERE - A freak accident
causes Michael (Golden Globe winner Steve Carell) to feel the office is
cursed. He explores the religious beliefs of his employees before
deciding to hold a charity 5K fun run. Meanwhile, further developments
in the romances of Pam (Jenna Fischer) and Jim (John Krasinski), and
Dwight (Rainn Wilson) and Angela (Angela Kinsey) are explored. B.J.
Novak, Melora Hardin, Ed Helms, Leslie David Baker, Brian Baumgartner,
Kate Flannery, Oscar Nunez, Phyllis Smith, Paul Lieberstein, Mindy
Kaling, Craig Robinson and Creed Bratton also star. ----------------------------- Starting the season with four hour long episodes really puts the pressure on, so I'm hoping the premier will be able to deliver without stretching things too thin.

Hey Gang! Here\\\'s my quick predictions for the new season! Jim and Pam will continue to keep their relationship a secret for a while. But they will eventually get caught in some big way. I loved how it was driving Kevin crazy! Angela and Dwight will start to have problems based on his euthanizing her cat Sprinkles. Actually, he didn\\\'t since it clung to like in the freezer tearing at frozen vegetable bags until it finally croaked. Am I the only one surprised that Dwight didn\\\'t finish the job? Eventually they will split up and Angela will start to date Andy. Which will drive Dwight crazy and give him a new focus. Michael and Jan will start off slow but look for Jan to really become the ultimate crazy girlfriend. This will either end with her being taken away in a straight jacket or she will meet a early demise not unlike poor Susan (Lilly?) on Seinfeld. Look for Ryan to become a huge jerk and try to push his new weight around, except that no one will pay him any mind at all. They will just ignore him. He will also eventually break and get busted down and be back at Scranton again in a new position. These are just some of my predictions, and I\\\'m sure most of you have similar thoughts for the new season. Let\\\'s see if I get any of this right!

i can kinda see angela dating andy but (uggghh, i can\\\'t get rid of that mental picture of andy\\\'s bloody nipples--grooooooss!) i really hope that dwight and angela stay together. also, i like that andy hasn\\\'t been kissing michael\\\'s ass (although, who knows since we\\\'re only one episode in) and he actually looked disgusted at michael when he said he hit meredith with his car. he\\\'s starting to grow on me little by little.
-
On Thursday I loved the episode...but watching the second time last night I found myself skipping through some scenes that didn\\\'t interest me- the religion discussion, anything while Michael was running, Andy\\\'s \\\"issues\\\" and (being a cat lover, this is hard to say) all Sprinkles talk. I did, however, watch the JAM scences numerous times. We\\\'ll see how the third viewing goes.
-
On second watching, I was noticing more how the episode would be broken down into two, and I think it will work much better that way. The scene of Jim slipping into Pam\'s car down the street is a nice payoff at the end of the episode, and having the whole \"Fun Run\" sectioned off into its own episode will probably work better, with the part where Michael is making Pam answer the phone with the impossibly long charity name as I guess the cold open. I think they should have just run it as two episodes this time -- I\'ll be even in reruns, they\'ll show it as two separate shows.

what?! what is wrong with you people!! it was awesome!! lol! okay, okay---everyone is entitled to their opinions and all that jazz. hehe... i rewatched on nbc (damn you nbc!! how am i supposed to listen to episodes at work on my ipod!!) and i still thought it was funny. i didn\\\'t notice andy\\\'s bloody nipples (i don\\\'t know how i missed that the first time!) until now and i was cracking up. i totally agree with ian about \\\"jam/pb&j\\\", the show isn\\\'t over just cuz they are together. if anything, i think the writers will be sharper cuz they won\\\'t have the stress from fearing our wrath over the \\\"will they/won\\\'t they\\\" storyline. i don\\\'t care what anyone says, jim and pam were so heartwarming this episode and i think they threw in just the right amount of \\\"jam\\\" into this episode. the episode didn\\\'t seem too long to me. i agree that they didn\\\'t have to point out every joke (i.e.-daryl and the squirrel) but michael saying it was \\\"insane\\\" was pretty freaking funny. i liked that we got to see smaller characters like billy and bob vance but i have to say the only part that really bugged me was the IT guy. i\\\'m hoping they don\\\'t try to make him a regular cuz it was just weird. he\\\'s funny but it they could\\\'ve done with out him saying as much as he did (granted, he only said about 2 lines. but billy and bob didn\\\'t say anything so, ya know.) and pam with the sex tape thing...c\\\'mon, i think we\\\'ve all clicked on those banners out of curiosity. i think she only owned up to it cuz it was jim that was there. if it had been someone else in the office she probably wouldn\\\'t have admitted it. i didn\\\'t think it was all that weird. fnb looks so cute but i must admit, i hope they have episodes where she\\\'s not all dolled-up. pam is cute either way but i like that the characters don\\\'t look all glam. anyway...i missed the show like crazy so i was very pleased with the episode. *sigh*...poor pringles...
-
Watching the episode again... the celebrity sex tape seems out of character, but Pam was very open about sex this episode. She saw Michael naked, said \\\"I didn\\\'t see where it started, but saw where it ended\\\", and later brought up how she knew Michael because she saw him naked. I don\\\'t know, none of this adds up to sexual deviant (like the video sorta implies), but still... Also... an interpretation, if anyone has any thoughts. Was Pam trying to use reverse psychology on Michael to try to get him to finish the race (like she did in \\\'The Fight\\\')????
-
On a previous thought (about the need to not make every joke blatant) I agree with this sentiment, but I loved Darryl and Michael\'s dialogue about feeding the squirrel. M: \"Just... don\'t feed him\" D: \"But look how happy he is\" (with a giddy joy that we\'ve never seen from Darryl before) M: \"He\'s happy because he\'s insane\" Darryl really makes me laugh here.

I had to go out of town to my grandfather\\\'s funeral for a few days and just to got to see The Office season premiere last night -- then the internet was down so I didn\\\'t get to see everyone\\\'s reactions here till this morning! Did anyone think Angela\\\'s hair was really yellow? I was struck by how weird it looked every time she was onscreen. I loved Jim\\\'s reaction when Pam admitted they were dating - the wide-eyed smile and \\\"Wow,\\\" almost like he would react to something crazy that Michael said, but happy too. That whole scene put me at ease about how their relationship will be handled this season. They really can interact in the office the same as before, and the show can just go on, maybe occasionally having something about conflict between them or something but not focusing on things between them. A few other favorite moments: When Michael admitted he was the one to run Meredith down in the parking lot and Pam said \\\"Oh, *Michael*\\\" like a disappointed mom. When Michael presented the check made out to \\\"Science\\\" When Jim and Pam came out of the estate sale with the lamp, and she handed it to him and he said \\\"oh, and I get to carry it\\\" When Pam and Jim were giving Michael a pep talk and Pam said that other, better people could do what Michael wasn\\\'t able to Okay, now I have to watch it again :-)

I doubt that I\'m treading any new ground with my comments, but I agree that the hour was entirely too long. I preferred the first half of the episode...I like Michael better when he goes into damage control mode as a result of something incidental (well, as incidental as vehicular assault can be). It WAS an accident, and he\'s just trying to downplay his role as much as possible so everyone can go back to liking him. All of this is true to character (and therefore, funny) to me. However, in the second half, his attempt at proaction just bugged me. I especially thought the entire religion conversation in the conference room was unnecessary and fodder for Michael to make an ass out of himself. There was no real lead-in to the discussion, and no mention of it later, so why bother with it in the first place? I also agree that some of the jokes could have gone without bringing attention to them in the dialogue (Darryl handfeeding a squirrel while Michael talks about rabies was hilarious; Michael noticing and commenting on it was not). As for the camera crew, I\'m still not sure where I stand. I was glad to see the confrontation about Jim & Pam (so we didn\'t have to listen to their talking heads for the next 6 weeks saying \"I\'m glad to be single\" when the audience knows otherwise). As it\'s been mentioned before, what is the purpose of the crew? Should they be asking these personal questions? Is it even their place to be ferreting out the secrets of the D-M staff? I guess I liked the episode, but thought that it suffered when stretched out into 40 minutes. There are too many opportunities for mediocre filler. I like regular 20 minute episodes where good jokes are cut out in favor of great jokes.
-
I forgot to mention that I think they can do some interesting things with having the camera crew the only \"person\" who absolutely knows they\'re hooked up. I mean, others (for example, Kevin) will suspect, but I wonder if the camera is going to be more of a character than we\'ve seen before because of it, or if it was just a device to get the information. Hmm.

sex video = fancy new beasley?.... spicy new beasley is more like it. Is this part of her letting her hair down? Is she a closet sexual deviant? It seems like an out of character random-weird thing to do. Did they just want the tech guy to return for fun or for a religious joke?
-
Overall, I was kinda disappointed. I thought a lot of the gags could have worked better if they were more subtle and perhaps only visual. If Andy had just shown up with a bloody shirt at the finish line without the whole fear of chaffing buildup I would have found it funny, but still ew! Instead of Creed interrogating Meredith about painkillers he could have simply raised his eyebrows, inspected the label on her IV and maybe pocketed something on the way out. The visual of Darryl feeding a squirrel in the background was funny enough without Michael pointing it out, etc. I realize they do have to give these guys some lines, but Creed especially is funnier to me when he’s quietly up to mischief in the background. Oh and Michael listing off creatures they could make a sacrifice to was just painful. Things I did like- The rabbies quilt. Jim back at his original desk. Michael psyches out Satan. Angela hip checking Dwight…. he must outweigh her by at least 100 pounds. Michael knew Sprinkles name and seemed sincerely upset to hear that she’d died. Angela and Pam’s relationship. The Jeopardy phonecall with Ryan. Did Ryan actually use air-quotes!? His new look just screams trying to hard to be cool. Michael gets the $8 lamp at the end of the race, reminded me briefly of Office Olympics. She could have been Pamela Anderson! A BIG check made out to SCIENCE, given to a stripper nurse.

Much better premiere than Season Three, I\\\'ll say that much. The hour long episode felt like two episodes that were jury-rigged into one. I literally screamed when PB&J said they were just friends at the beginning, and screamed in joy when they finally kissed. This will be a show that avoids the \\\"Moonlighting\\\" curse. The Office can survive with Jim and Pam as a couple, as that\\\'s not just what the show was about. Looking forward to a great season, as they started things off right here.
-
Yikes. What happened? I have to admit that I was disappointed in tonight\'s show. While there were some moments, this episode as a whole was fairly flat and didn\'t possess that special quirky quality which makes The Office so great. I\'m thinking that it was a mistake to make this show an hour. While we often lament about all the good material that is cut out of a half-hour episode, there really is something to be said for \"always leave them wanting more\". And that definitely was not the case this week. Let\'s hope that next week\'s show is better.
-
Ok, I\\\'m rewatching it right now on my lunch break (nerd=me) and there\\\'s something that just didn\\\'t sit right with me last night and is there again today. Dwight and Angela both seem really, really off. I don\\\'t think killing Angela\\\'s cat is something Dwight would have done in the past. Weird as he may be he has usually been quite considerate of Angela. It just doesn\\\'t seem fitting in with last season that he would do something like that. And Angela spoke openly about Dwight to the camera without specifying who he is to make it seem like it was nonchalant. Is this the first time she spoke directly about Dwight to Pam without cloaking it in secrecy.
-
>I\\\'m thinking that it was a mistake to make this show an hour. Only because it was two half hour episodes shown together under the same title and some overall themes. This will be extremely easy to break in two for syndication/reruns. I only hope that the next few \\\"hour\\\" episodes don\\\'t follow this format.
-
I so totally didn\'t catch the part about the cat clawing her way through the french fry bags. I was distracted and just caught the end of that. So gross. Oh, Dwight. I\'m glad they\'re not throwing the Jim/Pam relationship in our face. I\'m really scared about what they\'re going to do with that. The last thing I think any of us want to see is for them to break up and have yet another show with an \"OMGZ will they get back together?!?!\" storyline. Ryan intruiges me this season and I can\'t wait to see him a little more in action as Michael\'s boss. I think aside from the obvious jealousy issues Michael will have with being passed over, the man-crush on his boss will be hilarious. I would like to see more Karen. I was disappointed that she was on for a few seconds and then just left. That\'s too clean for me. She wouldn\'t need to stick around until she found a new job? She just picked up and left? That is too clean - something needs to happen there. I totally buy that Creed is 82.

JAM thoughts: The Jim & Pam Secrecy Act is a great way to solve the dilemma that Matt\'s been pointing out (shows crash when \'sam and diane\' get together). This gives them a new game and keeps tension. Very smart writing. This also explains why Jim\'s \"what I did this summer\" was lame. He was hiding he\'s über-excitement. It\'s funny how the documentary style makes the camera-person another character in the show. You get to see a little personality through it... it seems that the camera operator is all about spotting secret love. Every relationship has been noticed by the camera (of course, for the show, but I\'m just saying it speaks about the character). Examples: Dwight&Angela in the doghouse at Jim\'s party and the candy bar, Michael&Jan outside Chili\'s and the elevator at corporate, Jim&Pam after casino night and getting a ride in fun run, and even Gil and Oscar from Dwight\'s car.
-
Man, it\'s so good to have the team back again. It feels like winning on opening day. I think the cameraman deserved his moment in the sun. Imagine spending three years coveing a Scranton paper company! I loved Pam\'s look when Angela asked her if Roy had ever killed one of her cats.
-
Hey everybody! I missed you guys over the summer! I thought it was really funny - much funnier than a lot of Season 3. I loved the shot of Jan crashed out in bed and Michael saying she probably wouldn\'t be up for a few more hours. A little more screen time for Meredith (at a fairly high price!) was nice too. Kevin was priceless. He\'s normally so clueless, and he was just so ONTO them. Love that. Jim and Pam were adorable sneaking around. I did that for over a year with my boyfriend when we worked together. And a new classic Michael line - the one about being not SUPERstitious, just \"a little \'stitious\'\"

I\\\'m in limbo hell here. Living in Taiwan SUCKS when it comes to The Office. I was all pimped out with my iTunes subscription, but now that that bit the dust, I have no way of watching the season 4 shows. I\\\'m sad. Very sad. I want my PB&J. :( Anyone want to burn a CD of it and send it my way? I\\\'ll pay. Even youtube doesn\\\'t have any clips. :(
-
I wonder if they laminated the race numbers they\'re wearing so they wouldn\'t disintegrate every time the cast got sprayed down for \'sweat\' or if they had a gazillion of those lying around for each take? I love that Michael made himself number 1. So typical! I forgot to mention that I also wore my TWSS shirt to work today to celebrate. Can\'t wait for the podcast!
-
WHAT\\\'S UP M\\\'NERDS?! missed you guys!! are you excited for season 4 or what?! i also picked up some nifty gifties from target. i\\\'m sure i\\\'ve missed hundreds and hundreds of posts which i\\\'ll never be able to catch up to so i\\\'ll just start from here and move forward. hope you guys had an awesome summer dreaming of \\\"jam\\\"! see ya in the chat room! oh yeah! (and matt...you suck!! lol....*sigh* i\\\'ve missed giving you shit! :-)

Oh! I\'m SO excited! I went to Target and purchased \"nifty gifties\" from their dollar bin and have been distributing them amoung my co-workers who, thanks to me, are now addicted to The Office. Woot! I\'ll try to make the chat, but I have a wedding dress to finish so we\'ll see . . .
