From Wikipedia: CLASSY CHRISTMAS | 12.9.10 w: Mindy Kaling d: Rainn Wilson Michael couldn't be happier when Toby takes a leave of absence, leaving corporate to send Holly Flax (Amy Ryan) to cover for him. Michael forces Pam to plan a second Christmas party on the day Holly returns to Scranton. Jim agrees to a snowball fight with Dwight, which he later regrets. ---------- Well, here we go again. The Office has made the annual Christmas episode a part of our collective holiday celebrations, but will CLASSY CHRISTMAS be another classic Christmas Party or a Moroccan Christmas lump of coal? We shall indeed see, and adding Amy Ryan's Holly back into the office surely can't hurt our chances. As always, join Kevin and me in the TWSS Chatroom during and after the broadcast, and leave your comments below. Best comments get read on the next podcast!

Hmm... Funny how it works out that we only see Angela's boyfriend when the "Strangler" court is on recess! Maybe an upcoming plotline in The Ultimatum where Angela must choose to leave her boyfriend, the Scranton Stangler, or become Jailbait! Perhaps Dwight will get a third chance after all

I had very mixed feelings about this one. I thought the Dwight-Jim storyline was funny, however I find it odd that Jim would be so easily dominated and out-smarted. I felt really bad for Jim during the scene where he was nursing his bloody nose. I liked that for the first time in a long time, Pam showed off competence in her job. Toby and the Scranton Strangler wasn't a bad touch. The Darryl-daughter storyline was very dry, which is unfortunate because it would have been easy to fix it by making the Grinch/Christmas star search longer than 2 seconds. I mean is Andy that dumb to give her the star right away?? Angela's story with the potentially gay senator was disappointing. The only storyline left is the Michael/Holly story, which I thought was mostly horrible. Either Amy Ryan's delivery or the writing in general was off. Listening to her and Michael say hello and trade "jokes" was excruciating to witness...I felt like it went on forever. I only enjoyed her looking at him at the end, Kevin yelling at her about candy, and Erin being puzzled by why Holly would be considered attractive. For once she wasn't drop dead dumb! Victory!

(As usual, I'm commenting blindly, so this may be complete crazy garbage) What I liked about this episode was that it touched on some pretty dark themes. A lot of people have recently complained that the show has lost its heart and the ability to make them feel happy towards Pam, Jim, and Andy, but I think this is actually because the show has lost the ability to make us feel sad. Without some emotional lows, there can be no emotional highs. The writers tried to give us some tragedy with the Andy/Erin/Gabe triangle, but it didn't have the gravity to do so. We need to see bloody Jim and Michael yelling at Holly because the sadness magnifies the happiness, if it is to come. I'm really interested to see how yall rank this one in the holiday list. Usually, I agree with your opinions, but on last year's podcast I think you de-valued Benihana Cristmas, especially since on that ep you said it might be equal to Christmas party, which you now seem to view as untouchably supreme. Come on, that one brought us "my ho ain't my ho no mo!" It was hilarious! I would also like to remind everybody that while Moroccan Christmas did contain the abysmally unfunny intervention plotline, the Dwight and Princess Unicorn stuff was good, so it wasn't a complete waste of time. I have a kind of unusual request for you guys, which you are completely free to refuse. My mom (Dale Thomas) and sister (Anna Thomas) are huge fans of the podcast, and if people as famous as yall were to give them some kind of Merry Christmas shout-out, it would make their holiday (but if you do, please don't mention that it was directly requested by me). I have been trying to donate, but something's not quite working. Maybe it's my connection, or location, etc, but I'll keep trying. This podcast is awesome and I can't wait for the next installment! Happy holidays to everybody!

This was the first episode in a long time where I actually laughed out loud! I thought the Jim / Dwight battle was so funny being over the top. It is great to have both affection and dislike to two characters battling. Jim is such a wuss once he gives Dwight a full face of snow! Dwight is so wonderfully asshole-ish. It made the episode for sure, and I hope now to see more pranks on Dwight, because he has certainly earned it. They made me love Jim and Pam again THANK YOU! Toby was so annoying. I hate the way he talks! Simpering idiot. I thought Angela's plot was just boring, we are all in on her destiny for failure in relationship. haha. *sarcastically* I LOVED the talking head with Stanley about how he had been dreaming of being on a jury. What great facial expression from him. I want to know where Kelly is going with this whole ehtno diversity awareness slant, they have been building it for a few episodes. It would be so lame to have her as the Michael replacement. I guess she had to get some sort of character development, but please keep it only a short story arc! I really hated Holly this episode, they were so annoying together!

I seem to be in a minority here, but I hated, hated, hated, hated, HATED this episode. It was an unfunny, cliche-ridden mess. Michael ruins a party, then "redeems" himself at the end? Wow, what a plot twist there, writers! Dwight was almost human last week, but now he's just a psychotic, perverted freak? Bleech! Angela's politician-boyfriend turns out to be gay? Who woulda thunk it? And, the icing on the cake, how is handing out crappy vending machine snacks supposed to make a little girl's Christmas magical? Even the return of Holly couldn't pull this out of the crapper for me. Bah, Humbug!

Loved having Holly back, she makes michael ridiculously happy, most of the time. The actual party was a bore, but that was okay. Favorite part was the Dwight snowball assault on Jim. Havent seen anything that funny since the prank war on Hawkeye on MASH. Just hilarious, especially the ending.

I really dislike Holly, and dislike Michael when he's with Holly. The writes showcasing their humor went far too long, one joke, perhaps two, would've sufficed. Toby, please come back! I absolutely LOVED the Dwight versus Jim story line, it was about time they turned the tables after 7 years. The forest of snow men was briliant. Also, Pam being good at her job was a breath of fresh air. I'm usually not a fan of Jim and Pam, as a matter in fact I used to go under the name, "I Hate Jim and Pam", but recently I've been enjoying their characters. To see Pam using past experiences and statements to foresee problems that might occur, or questions that may creep up. Good to see those two in a role that differs from their usual portrayal of Toby Statler and Conrad Waldorf from the muppets. The show has taken some welcome turns, in my opinion.

I really wanted to love this episode. The combination of Holly coming back, and it being an hour long Christmas episode seemed like a sure thing. I was wrong. I actually did like The Michael, Darryl and Pam angles, but I gotta give a big wtf to the Dwight/Jim thing. Granted, it was kind of a jerk move to hit Dwight in the face with a snowball, but Dwights suddenly able to destroy Jim? Really? Years of Jim besting Dwight at every turn, and suddenly he knows how to get Jim that well? Not buying it, or liking it. Dwight is best as an arrogant goofball kiss up, not a confident psychological mastermind. I really hated that angle. Also hated the gay senator. Cmon, how clich can you get? It was nice to see Angela smiling and happy with a nice senator boyfriend, but they had to throw in the clich gay senator angle. Grrrr, why? Oh, yeah, and the gay man in the office instantly knows. Good, glad I have that storyline to look forward to. Yippee. Cant they just let someone have a normal relationship? Why not just make him gay to begin with, and have Oscar date him? Pam telling Michael not to give up on Holly was a nice Booze Cruise throwback, to when Michael told Jim not to give up on Pam.. It was a nice moment, and I was glad to see they didnt have Michael fall down on the ice like an ass. Erin questioning Michaels infatuation with Holly was pretty funny, but it doesnt seem like her character to think like that, I wish they wouldnt change her personality every week. And, WOW, what happened to AJ? I remembered him looking decent years ago, but he looks horrible in this episode. Im hoping for a more positive reaction to subsequent viewings, maybe I was in a Thursday Matt mood. Really Looking forward to Hearing Matt and Kevins take on it! BTW; is anyone more pathetic than fLeNdErSoN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????

I've always been a huge fan of Jim's pranks and a true JAMMER like Kevin. Gotta say, I kinda liked seeing Jim get his comeuppance last night from Dwight. All those snowmen were kinda creepy. Also loved Dwight's assorted wigs (especially Kevin and Stanley). Would've loved to see his Ryan look - maybe that'll be in the deleted scenes. To me, this wasn't nearly as bad as Moroccan Christmas, which TBS helpfully played this past Tuesday night as a comparison of how bad these episodes can get. The bit on Angela's boyfriend was funny too. That actor's first big role on TV was as Blake and Alexis Carrington's gay son on Dynasty back in the 80s. Overall, solid B+ on first watching. Maybe an A- later on. Can't wait to hear what others thought! Merry Christmas from the unseasonably cold South!

I just love Office x-mas episodes! This year we had happy Stanley. Cute Jim and Pam! (Plus a nice Pam that was doing caring things for people around her). Our usual pathetic Toby and of course...Holly! Best line of the episode: "Thank you Scranton Strangler. You just took another persons breath away". I thought Erin would have been funnier in this episode if she delivered her lines a little more simply and deadpan. And although I LOVE the dynamic between Holly and Michael and that she gets his jokes/line of logic without effort, I thought that the the intro with funny voices and awkward lines was almost too much. It was like the writers were trying too hard to show their sense of humor. I thought they did a better job with that over the phone in "sex ed". Overall, great episode. Didn't beat "X-mas Party" or "Secret Santa" for me, but still very good.

Realy didn't enjoy the Jim and Dwight plot. I kept waiting for Jim to get Dwight back and nothing.Just something for Dwight to get his like Angela rubbing her boyfriend in Dwight's face. Then Dwight or his assistant guy spends all this time building snowmen. Then Jim trys to beat Dwight and stab him in the stomach with the umbrela was a very unusual pay back for him. Also why have Michael clean Woody if it is still dirty at the end. Oh ya and I don't know any little girl who doesn't want to spend Christmas giving randmon people bags of chips from a vending machine.
