Claire -- When I think of an unsubtle "stupid" performance, I think of something Jim Carrey would try and pull off. You're right, sometimes Michael isn't very subtle at all -- ie, not knowing how to ride a bike, but I think, for the most part, he keeps his stupidity at lower tones. You're right though, Michael and Darryl are complete opposites, and that's why I like the change. I'd rather have the new office manager be a departure from Michael, rather than try to copy what Michael did. With the former there's a chance that the show could find its own new vibe that might be interesting. If the new manager tries to copy what Michael does/did, then it will be a lame, stale rip-off worthy of cellar ratings and a quick departure from television.

I'm SO bummed that they may have Darryl take over! Noooooo! Brandon- I couldn't disagree with you more. Michael is about as far from subtle as you can get. Darryl is like the anti-Michael. I will be tempted to stop watching if Darryl takes over. And I'm not a Darryl hater- I just thought he was funniest in the warehouse, occasionally making fun of Michael when he came to him to ask about gang's or being a "baby daddy". The Jim and Pam thing was stupid. If you buy in and think that they would basically stalk Timothy Olyphant around the office to find out about a few dates that happened several years ago, then Jim and Pam seem creepy, socially unaware and unlikeable. If you don't buy it, then it just makes for an unbelievable and dismissible plot line.

Is there any chance that Dwight's new assistant could be the Scranton Strangler? I mean it is kind of creepy how he is just hanging out at the bus stop. The irony is that he probably helped Dwight make his costume and lent some advice on what the S.S. (Scranton Strangler) would wear.

Best cold open in awhile. Kevin pretending to be Phylis was priceless. Wonder if that was Dwights personal little pony? How much stupider are the writters going to make Erin? Come on, not knowing what bobbing for apples means and sitting on the phone to turn off the speaker? B+ episode overall.

I had a blast watching this episode, there were a ton of laugh-out-loud moments. "I got up and walked right out of Walter Bernard Hall." Todd Packer and his trouser mouse was the highlight for me: "Hey Halpert, you want someone to bang your wife?" I didn't really understand Pam's obsession with caring what Tim Olyphant thought of her. Jim's insecurity in the outset of the program was a projection of Pam's, which was the hidden driving force behind the entire B plot. That seemed a little forced to me. As a wife and a mom, you'd think Pam would have a little more maturity at this stage. I mean, it was two dates four years ago. Who cares? Looks like the writers are clearly wanting us to assume that Darryl is in the running to take over the reins. After the Andy barrage at the outset of the season, perhaps now we're going to get a string of Darryl-based episodes. I support Darryl taking over, his brand of comedy is subtle, which is similar to Michael's. Where as Michael is subtle-stupid, Darryl is subtle-smart, and it may be enough of a departure to give The Office a new enough feel when Michael does leave. It would make it fresh enough again to stay interested. We'll see.

good episode i thought, costumes always a laugh. cold open was interesting; it was different and funny, but i would have liked to see stanley at some point realise what they were doing. we finally saw flenderson, a first for a few weeks! i wasnt a great fan of the michael plotline, i didnt find it as funny as usual, but i suppose they are slowly paving the way for his exit now.
