From Wikipedia: THE BANKER | 1.21.10 When a potential buyer comes to Dunder Mifflin, Michael, Dwight, Andy and Pam pull out all the stops in hopes of impressing him with their high profile contacts. Michael reminisces about all the great times they have had in the office. --------------- To borrow a line from The Simpsons-- So, it's come to this. A "clip show" for THE OFFICE. As Kevin mentioned in the last podcast, there HAVE been good "clip show" episodes before (see SEINFELD), but by and large they have always been a sign of a show trying to produce a "new" episode on the cheap. Will the interstitial material be enough to make this episode "podcast-worthy"? Only time will tell. The episode was written by Jason Kessler, who has been involved with production but never actually written an Office episode before. Join us in the TWSS chatroom tonight during and after the episode.

Does anyone ever wonder about just who has been funding this \"documentary?\" At this point, it should be obvious that Dunder Mifflin isn\'t doing so, as they are in financial ruin. Perhaps this was 6-year project from the buyer to figure out just which mid-level paper company they were going to buy out? I sometimes wish we found out more about the actual documentarians and their motive for making this documentary

Two quick observations: 1. I always think it\'s hilarious - not in a good way - when clps are supposed to be someone\'s memories of events, and they \"remember\" events they weren\'t present for; there were dozens of them this time around, e.g. Toby \"remembering\" Michael running over Meredith or Jim and Pam kissing in the office after Casino Night...although Toby could have been stalking Pam I suppose... 2. It would have been funny to see Stanley\'s reaction to \"fake Stanley,\" and how they would have explained it to him. I can\'t help but think his reaction to Michael would have involved a healthy \"What is wrong with you?\"... These last few weeks have been a tactical mistake for the Office folks I think; I don\'t know how all of you other Office diehards feel but this mid-season oasis has given me the chance to get seriously hooked on other shows like ABC\'s Modern Family, which is HILARIOUS and relies on talking heads (with no explanation)...great characters, plots, and sparkling, witty dialogue. The fact that I dated a guy for a year who then decided he was gay, and that the gay character Mitchell is a dead ringer for him, only makes me laugh more but it would be excellent without that; check it out! from Kimm Walton

Hey MuckMallard, I though wondered whos been funding this doc, if you think about it, it could be NBC, they\'ve 200 million on Leno, and another 200 million on the Olympics. I honestly believe that the last episode will be called, \"The Premier\" in which all currrent and former cast members (Jan, David Wallace, Charles, Devin, and Todd Packer will all be there) of the show will show up to watch this great documentary, before it starts, I imagine BJ will offer to hold the camera for the camera man, which will show us that all along Ricky Gervais has been in the office all these years. Will that happen?, I don\'t know, but I\'d find it hard for them to write a better end

Wow. If you were in the chatroom, you already know how I feel. My bitter reaction was \"WTF?! The writers just threw this together because they are FAR too lazy to actually write, and get this, WRITE WELL! Now why would a show want good writers?! Oh I know why, this episode actually proved that! The old episodes were AMAZING, but this still was just a cheap trick. Sincerely, thedissapointedbook

I really liked the new material that was there. For a clip show it wasn\'t bad, but I didn\'t like some of the clips they chose to use. Why wouldn\'t they use Roy attacking Jim, or Stanley yelling at Ryan? They seem to fit the bill better than some of the clips they used.

Were some of the clips from the deleted scenes? I know for a fact I\'ve seen every past episode, but there were a couple of scenes I hadn\'t seen before. Just wondering. I\'m a fan of the Office on Facebook so when I got a status update of a new episode, I was really looking forward to it. Then I was disappointed to see the clip show. Looking on the bright side, I\'d rather laugh at old clips than hate on new ones. Plus, Jim\'s imitation of Dwight and the \"bears...beets...Battlestar Gallactica\" line always makes me laugh until I cry. For once this season The Office was funnier than 30 Rock, so it\'s kinda sad that it had to happen because of old clips. Kevin & Matt: I agree with KSoje--please still do a podcast!

Hey All Glad to see that some of the ep was original material, even if there were only a few laughs amongst them. It should be noted that the investment banker, played by David Costabile, is the third actor from THE WIRE to guest star on THE OFFICE. He was Managing Editor Thomas Klebanow at the Baltimore Sun in Season 5. So nice to see THE OFFICE giving WIRE actors work.

I thought this was a pretty good \"episode.\" I loved the \"new Stanley\" bit and I was surprised at how many times I caught myself laughing out loud. I agree that sometimes clip shows can be a tad hokey, but I enjoyed seeing my favorite characters back in the \"good ole days.\" I thought they did a good job of integrating the clips into the storyline, and my only real complaint is the music they played over the Jim/Pam montage. I wish they wouldn\'t have added that music. I think it would have been better to just have the dunder mifflin jingle and lazy scranton songs in the episode. Overall, I think this episode was a nice walk down memory lane. Nothing outstanding, but it left me smiling. (TWSS)

I still think that the only show to ever pull off a successful clip show was Stargate SG-1. Their clip shows managed to still move along the plot, sometimes even presenting new angles that fed directly into the resolution of a season. The Office? Yeah...not so much. There were three funny moments: fake Stanley and shoving Ryan\'s door shut, and the Compu-tron at the end of the episode. The Jim/Pam montage brought back some nice memories, but the same memories could have been induced through watching a YouTube montage. Overall: meh. Here\'s hoping this was the one and only clip show.

Clip shows made sense back before Home Video. Back when missing an episode meant missing a really funny moment you would never see again, unless a re-run happened. Clip shows were ways to fill the audience in on happennings they weren\'t aware of, or might have missed. In the age of instant streaming online content and DVDs accessible anytime in the home, there is NO PLACE for a clip show in modern television series anymore. They are a waste of space, and while the intent is to \'fill in\' casual viewers, they also serve as a slap in the face to die-hard fans who have watched and re-watched all of the episodes time and time again. To quote the Simpsons comic book guy... \"Worst... episode... ever...\" I actually hated this episode.
