Ricky Gervais was at the Paley Center this past week to promote his new HBO production "Ricky Gervais: Out Of England -- The Stand-up Special." When asked by the intrepid TV Guide reporter if Gervais would like to make a guest appearance on the US version of THE OFFICE, Gervais had this to say: Gervais even has an idea for how he could appear: as himself, playing struggling actor Andy Melman on HBO's Extras. "I'd quite like them to maybe be watching an episode of Extras, and Michael Scott comes along and goes, 'This guy is no good. If they ever do a remake, I think I should do that part." Personally, I think Gervais shouldn't come within a country mile of the US Office. Sure, he can write another episode (he still owes us for "Prison Mike," after all) or direct, but to have him appear as David Brent would be incredibly silly (and having him appear AT ALL would be a major distraction). 30 ROCK has really been milking the celebrity cameo this season, and I can see the temptation of getting Gervais to appear. Still, I think once we go down that road there will really be no coming back.

Gazoo..you are right which is why he has the opportunity to be placed at Scranton...perhaps temporarily while michael is sick or on leave or something.........but i also like Kevins idea of it happening at the finale for closure.... (but dont want to think about that finale = sad)

Gervais is usually great in everything he does. Even on ALias he was funny... and check out his charity promotions stuff... but his example wouldnt really work cause Michael Scott is not an actor so why would he consider acting in any remake (even as a joke - its a bit of a stretch) The best tie in opportunity would be at a paper convention or as a paper business consultant or something like that - that might work

Hey Matt I\'m with you on this one. At first it would seem like a really cool tip of the hat/meta thing for Ricky or any of the original cast members of the UK OFFICE (or any cast member of the now half dozen versions around the world) to show up, but it would be a bit distracting for Ricky to show up in front of the camera. Daniels and Co. have always had a \"no big guest stars\" policy that they still adhere to. I think it would only work as like an epilogue cameo for the final episode. As for behind the camera, yes they should still contribute once in a while. Steve Merchant\'s fantastic directing of \"Customer Survey\" proves that they should pop up once a year behind the camera.
