Matt, re Meredith\'s job: in \"Boys and Girls\" (I believe) Meredith says she is good at supplier relations; I take that to mean that she does purchasing. I don\'t think anyone has mentioned that Andy\'s fate is just what he feared in \"Travelling Salesmen\" -- floating down the chocolate river like Augustus Gloop in \"Willy Wonka\" (or \"Charlie\" if you prefer). Substitute \"Lake Scranton\" for \"chocolate river\" and add a sumo suit for Andy to approximate Augustus\'s bulk and you have a perfect match.

Matt -- Yeah, I didn\\\'t mean to be saying Jim\\\'s a go-getter exactly . . . though, I think he can be when he wants to. I don\\\'t know, not counting freaky Dwight, is Jim more of a slacker than anyone else in the office? I think the reason he appears to be is because he obviously has so much more potential than really anyone else there. So his \\\"just getting by\\\" looks worse than, say, Stanley\\\'s, or Meridith\\\'s, or Ryan\\\'s. Of course, I\\\'m not even mentioning Michael, or King Slacker Creed.

Regarding the in well--oh, the job\'s in a well? exchange, I got the impression that saying I\'d like to be considered for the job in well was possibly just Rashida Jones messing up, and Krasinski just improvised along with it. I agree, it\\\'s totally not funny, but I figured either it was the only good take they had of the scene (because the sun was going down so fast) or for some reason it made them laugh in the editing room so they used it. I will say that yet again it demonstrates that Jim doesn\\\'t take the job as seriously as Karen, because you don\\\'t try to make someone giggle when they are on the phone with the CFO.

I\\\'m pretty sure that no one from the show actually interfered with Ruthie getting into that car and driving drunk on Real World -- the producers talked to her about it afterward. As for how Andy got out of the water, on the Office Alliance podcast they hypothesized that everyone went looking for him after Michael started worrying about getting his deposit back for the missing rental Sumo Suit...
-
Prediction: Jim and Karen will be the top two candidates for the job (possibly Jan\\\'s) and the offer will eventaully go to Jim. Pam will be bumming until Jim comes thru the door and says he passed it up to stay in Scranton with her...and Karen will get the job and move to New York. Oh yeah, and Jan\\\'s news will be that she\\\'s engaged to her therapist.

The JAM romance is not over. Also, I don\\\'t fully get that Jim is a slacker. Hasn\\\'t he come through a bunch of times when he\\\'s had to? I know he\\\'s doesn\\\'t take things too seriously, and he\\\'s got that basic dissatisfaction with his life and all, but he does do his job. Think of Traveling Salesman, and even the scene in the school (though we didn\\\'t get to see the end, clearly it was Jim who was doing the saving). He smart; he\\\'s good at sales; and he a leader when he wants to be. I just don\\\'t quite see him as a slacker.

Remember Wallace and Jim shooting hoops at his house in \"Cocktails?\" I think Wallace like Jim, and probably contacted Jim to see if he was interested. I think Wallace probably left Jim a message on his work phone, and then Jim got the message by calling his messages. Jim strikes me as the kind of guy who wouldn\'t let a day go without checking his messages because he is paid on commission, he wouldn\'t want sales to be lost just because he was out of the office.

Brett -- that\\\'s right. I forgot to mention that. That look to the camera definitely looked more like \\\"oh no\\\" rather that \\\"what about me,\\\" or something. Also, it\\\'s just insane that they would be seriously interviewing Michael for any kind of real position. It\\\'s implausible enough that he\\\'s the regional manager. So, I have to figure that his interview is perfunctory only.

I totally disagree with you all about Jim and the job thing. Jim and Karen heard from Michael that there is a job available in NY, and the next scene is the two of them sneaking off to call corporate asking to be considered. I also don\\\'t think Jim is a bad guy for going after the NY position. Why exactly does he owe Michael his loyalty? I mean, he\\\'s already jumped ship once and it worked out well for him -- why not do it again? Also, I think most of us would agree that, amusing as it is to see on TV, working for Michael would be a hellish nightmare. Jim is smart enough to recognize that he has a good shot at any job Michael might be seriously considered for. As for Jim and Karen competing for the same job -- yeah, that might be kind of awkward, but maybe they\\\'re thinking one gets a job at corporate and then helps the other get one too? Or they\\\'re just not that serious about each other? I think part of Jim\\\'s relationship with Karen is being more ambitious about his career.

For now OfficeTally can be found at officetally.wordpress.com I hated the Dwight on the coals scene! For me it\'s one of those never watch again moments, like Michael punking Pam in the Pilot. People laughed at that? They must be on Team Karen. Whatever happened to \"throw myself in front of a train\" Jim?
-
I think Jim is just too nice a guy to go for a job Michael wants. Especially since he likes Michael. He confided with him on the ship, called him a \\\"great boss\\\" at the convention and when that Stanford boss double-crossed Jan he said it was something Michael \\\"would never do\\\". If he didn\\\'t like Michael he\\\'d be pranking him instead of Dwight or Andy/Drew. And he\\\'s too much of a slacker to go after a job unless he\\\'s forced to, like at the end of season 2. I can\\\'t believe I\\\'m getting this involved in this discussion. BTW, there\\\'s an excellent \\\"That\\\'s what she said\\\" deleted scene NBC posted today.

Some post podcast thoughts -- I completely assumed that Wallace called Jim. The other way around never occurred to me. Also, after that scene, I assumed that Michael was being interviewed either due to some policy reason, or just to let him save face. But, since you bring it up, I agree that it\'s something they really should have made clear. If I\'m reading it wrong and Jim would actually do that, well, that\'s a pretty major thing to leave ambiguous. Andy floating away into oblivion? I know a lot of people love that kind of humor. I just never have. So, I\'m with Matt on that -- too cruel. People laughed at Dwight on the coals??? Huh? No, that was not funny. It was wholly disturbing. And, um, I never thought I\'d be embarrassed to be quoted on The That\'s What She Said podcast, but, oh my God, I\'m disgusting! I\'m definitely going to have to scrap my dream of running for public office.

The Quick and Dirty reference was so \\\"inside baseball\\\" but hilarious for those in the podcasting industry. That\\\'s a podcast I would listen to! Give Mignon a call! They really need to clarify the call for Jim. As you noted it\\\'s really important if Jim was called vs. him calling. Another great episode. Matt, given the realistic possibility of Jan being pregnant, are you sure? I\\\'ve been thinking and another possibility is that Michael gets the job and Jan brings him the \\\"good\\\" news. That would keep Jim in Scranton next to Pam, where he blongs. Having Jim move to NYC would be death for the show. I guess we\\\'ll see on Thursday.
