In preparation for Matt and Kevin's season-ending recording of the That's What She Said Podcast, we ask our dear listeners for their thoughts on Season 8. Did you love it? Did you hate it? What were your favorite moments, storylines, or characters? Let us know... The eighth season consisted of twenty-four episodes. James Spader reprises his role as Robert California, the new CEO of Dunder Mifflin/Sabre. Andy is promoted to Regional Manager and works hard to make a good impression on Robert, and asks Dwight to be his number two. Pam and Jim are expecting their second child, Phillip, at the start of the season, to coincide with Jenna Fischer's real life pregnancy. Angela is pregnant with her first son, also named Philip, with Sen. Robert Lipton (although it is implied that Dwight Schrute is actually the child's biological father). Darryl starts falling for new warehouse worker Val. Dwight is tasked with traveling to Tallahassee, Florida in order to assist Sabre Special Projects Manager Nellie Bertram (Catherine Tate) in launching a chain of retail stores, along with Jim, Ryan, Stanley, Erin, and new office temp Cathy Simms. Cathy is also revealed to have ulterior motives for the trip, as she intends to seduce Jim, but fails. Robert later kills the retail store project, blaming Todd Packer for the debacle. Erin decides to stay in Florida as an elderly woman's live-in helper. Andy goes to Florida and wins back Erin, but this allows Nellie to claim the manager position as her own. Robert tells Andy that he has been demoted back to a salesman, but refuses to accept the news, which causes him to be fired. Andy becomes motivated to begin a Dunder Mifflin comeback and joins with former CFO, David Wallace, to buy Dunder Mifflin back from Sabre putting Sabre completely out of business and giving Andy the manager position once again.

American networks will milk a show for every penny they can get, with no regard for creating a quality product they can be proud of. The Office peaked several seasons ago, and they should have ended it when Steve Carell left. James Spader has no place in a sitcom, and as for trying to make Catherine Tate's character more sympathetic, well, it seems pointless to introduce new characters this late in the game and expect us to care. Let Jim open up his bike shop, Dwight get back to the farm, Toby publish his mystery novel, and then let this withered, wretched corpse of a show be buried in peace.

Most of what I think has been posted so far. I was hoping the writers would find a good way to keep the show interesting without Steve Carell, but I was unfortunately wrong. I found the episodes in Talahassee pretty enjoyable, and there were some decent episodes (Turf War was pretty good, and Pool Party was OK). Overall though, worst season ever. My hope is that Season 9 is the last season. NBC is not known for making the best programming decisions however (still mad about Community), and so they will probably keep this show on for at least a couple more years. I think that they believe that The Office is still one of their strongest shows.

One more thought... I think people have overreacted to season-8, IMO it wasn't "bad", just not "great"...which is the reason we all gathered here in the first place. Although there were a few cringe-worthily bad moments, there wasn't an episode where I wasn't somewhat entertained.

I wish they'd signed Maura Tierney on to keep me excited about The Office. She's the best! I've missed your podcast and wish that you'd continue podcasting about another show. TWSS is one of the very first podcasts I subscribed to when I got my iPod. It's a really well-done! Please continue in some form! Pick a show, I'll listen!

Season 8 was meh. Some funny moments but more awful moments. Jim, Pam and Dwight could not pull the weight of the show like Micheal (Steve C.) did. It's sad to say but Season 7 should of been the Series finale. I'll still watch season 9 and then ask myself why I did. Oh well.

without a doubt the worst season ever. And there will be no reason in hell that i will watch the next season. Catherine Tate was useless. Awful Awful character. The Val/Darryl story was terrible. Andy not being a good boss - wow that joke got thin about 1 episode in - not 22. Robert California was introduced with such mystique in the final of season 7 - then he turned into a useless tool. never has a show had such a terrible season

Season 8 had its moments, but pretty much everything from the point where Nellie came back to Scranton was terrible. I can't believe they are bringing Nellie back as a regular character next season. I am a fan of Catherine Tate, but Nellie has just been painful. And their attempts to make her more sympathetic have just made her character more painful. I'm seriously considering bailing on the show at this point.
