Well, we still have a few weeks before the next new episode of The Office airs on January 15th, so Kevin and I were thinking of trying to squeeze in a retro episode next week. The only problem is, we don't know which episode to do next! ![]() Here's where you guys come in-- In the comments below (or by e-mail, if you'd prefer), tell us WHICH retro episode you'd like to see us do and explain WHY you'd like us to cover that particular episode. It's just that easy. You've got about a week to send in your reply, and the "winner" (aside from having Kevin and me review the episode of their choice) will receive major props on air, as well as a free copy of the book THE OFFICE AND PHILOSOPHY (a $17.95 value!). Get your entries in ASAP. EDIT: Ian and I ALREADY did "THE INJURY" back in episode #18.5. If you haven't listened to it yet, check it out HERE. Kevin and I did "THE ALLIANCE" back in episode #37. Check it out HERE.

Hello there matt and ian! i think u should do \\\"basketball\\\" end of first series when things really began to take shape with characters coming into there own, Michael showing himself up after the mega funny talking heads. then the start of jim vs roy. quality stuff! As long as u do ur funny j fox accent ill be happy! cheers ears

I would like to see you guys do \"The Fire\" its probably my favorite because it was an earlier episode where we get to see everybody\'s personality shine a bit. Kevin\'s Desert Island DVD\'s are classic. We also get to see a bit of a more human side to Roy even though he still proves himself to be immature. Finally theres Dwight\'s classic rendition of \"Ryan Started The Fire\" I also would like to hear you guys discuss the deleted scenes (especially the one about Jim and Toby having a lot in common!)

I\'ll be happy with any retro episode, but I just wanted to weigh in (late) on the hidden gems of Dwight\'s Speech. Matt - I was like you. Almost every time I re-watched Season 2 I would skip over Dwight\'s Speech, because all I remembered of it was the awkward dictator speech. But one day I sat down and watched it - there is a lot to love in that episode! The cold open is awesome! The disagreement over the temp the air conditioner should be set at is very office-y and I found it funny. But, mostly what I love about it is the Jim and Pam dynamic and it\'s comparison to the Ryan / Kelly dynamic. Sure, Ryan\'s a dick, but at least he\'s straightforward about his feelings, whereas Pam is leading Jim on. This episode also reveals a lot about Jim\'s character - I think this is the episode where we learn he eats the same ham & cheese sandwich everyday. And, Matt - you\'ll love that Jim\'s prank on Dwight is a direct response to Dwight being a complete jerk to him. Hmmm... maybe I\'ll re-watch it tonight! Thanks again to both of you for the hard work on the Podcast. I especially enjoy the Retro episodes.

I too vote for The Client. We learn of Jan\'s divorce and the stuff with Michael and Tim Meadows is hilarious. And the Threat Level Midnight reading is off the charts. Lots of good stuff. Although I must say I had awesome blossom coming out of my nose when I read the text from Dwight\'s speech here! Kudos!

There\'s not a doubt in my mind that The Client is my favorite episode of The Office. My slightly hazy memory would say it\'s a perfect episode but if I watch it a couple times I\'m sure I could find something to pick at (yes, I know there is no Chillis in Scranton).

hmm, lots of interesting choices. I think I agree this time that it should maybe be Casino Night, that episode is definitely due for a recap. But to be honest, my best and personal favorite will always be sexual harassment. And it has so many good \"thats what she saids\"! Including my favorite involving Pams mom. Definitly it should be done in the future at some point.
-
My vote goes for either Casino night, The client, or Email Survellaince. As you can see I have trouble making decisions. LOL I\'ll be happy with any old episode. So no related to the topic at hand, but I was reading Glamour mag and ran across this confession. \"My husband asked, \'Can we do it, but can it just be all about me?\' It gets better: He said I could keep the TV on so I wouldn\'t miss The Office\" - Maria, 32 LOL

i think you should do \\\\\\\"take your daughter to work day\\\\\\\" it is a great episode with alot of funny moments and it also shows a different side to micheal and also sets up his baby/child love in season 5 baby shower.and plus its frikin hilarious

Thank you Matt and Kevin. I\'m so excited about the prospect of a retro episode. I have two suggestions if I may be so bold. I really liked Email Surveillance. This is a great Jim/Pam episode and Michael\'s acting class scene was hysterical. Not to mention, we get to see the budding Dwight/Angela relationship and to top it all off - karaoke. Or maybe Boys and Girls. I liked this episode too. Who can resist Michael \"Hasselhoff\" Scott offering his man meat made with his foot grill. Or learning about sports references and how they apply to Michael and Jan. And there\'s always that film about our changing bodies. Such good stuff in this episode. Good luck selecting and episode, can\'t wait to hear the podcast!

In case my first post didn\'t give enough reasons... Here are why 19 reasons CASINO NIGHT should be picked 1) If you pick this one a little kid in the Congo will have a belly full of rice this evening. 2) Jim displays his mind control powers. 3) Because comedy is very much alive, as are homeless people. 4) Toby\'s BOY SCOUTS ban. FLENDERSON!!! 5) Comedy is very much alive, as are homeless people. 6) Afgans with AIDS 7) Dinkin\' flicka 8) Introducing Scrantonicity 9) Kevin is really hoping you picking this episode works out. This could be a turning point for the band. 10) Mark this day down in your history book... the only time Michael has two dates. 11) Michael drops a deuce on us all. 12) Billy\'s nurse is hot. 13) Will Lady Fortune give Stanley that raise? 14) Toby wants you to do this episode....lets chase that feeling. 15) Kevin\'s mad poker skills. We meet Kevin the rocker and Kevin the gambler in this ep. 16) Creed finally gets his refrigerator. 17) Michael gets his New York girl and his local flavor. 18) You always love when an episode has a \"Season two feel\"...well I think this qualifies. 19) Some JAM stuff I believe right??

You guys should do The Fire. It has great Michael/Ryan, who became fireD guy. It shows Dwight\'s need for Michael\'s admiration/love. Also, there were very revealing parking lot games played, such as Who would you do? Moreover, we see Amy Adams, who was great in Doubt btw. Anyways, back on topic, the last Retro episode you did was Office Olympics which was the episode before The Fire. So all in all, you guys should do The Fire. How can you resist a cheesy pita causing a fire? :) Ryan started the fire It was always burning Since the world\'s been turning Ryan started the fire It was always burning Since the world\'s been turning Joe McCarthy, Richard Nixon, Studebaker, Television North Korea, South Korea, Marilyn Monroe

I\'ll vote for \"Casino Night\" as well. As matt has said many times it was the perfect ending to a perfect season of comedy and story arch. And it was that \"super sized\" 45 minutes with commercials length which I still think is the perfect length for an office episode. It\'s not too short and too drawn out like an hour long episode.

Jackie wrote: >it cracks me up that you apparently only have ONE picture >in existence of each of you Well, Matt is actually quite particular about the photos for the blog. Maybe if we were located in the same town we could real promo photos or something. :-) It\'d sure be twisting my arm to talk about Casino Night, one of my favorite episodes ever. But I actually liked Dwight\'s speech quite a bit too. Sophie\'s choice...

Decisions, decisions! I used to despise \"Dwight\'s Speech\", but only recently began seeing it for the great episode it is. There\'s a lot of Jim angst in this one - where he is face to face with Pam\'s wedding plans and decides to take a trip to get away from the date of the wedding. The fact he chose Australia - a country on the other side of the planet - is so heartbreaking. Dwight\'s situation is definitely funny since, as mentioned above, it\'s a Jim prank that actually turned into a great outcome. And...\"Casino Night\". That episode is filled with so much heart rendering awesomeness that it stands as a classic episode. But it seems an obvious choice - whereas \"Dwight\'s Speech\" is a somewhat slighted yet dense episode of humor, Jim and Dwight interaction and Halpert heartbreak. My vote...\"Dwight\'s Speech\".

I would have to say one of the best \"retro\" episodes that hasn\'t been done is Dwight\'s Speech from season 2 episode 17. Dwight\'s Speech: BLOOD ALONE MOVES THE WHEELS OF HISTORY! [pause] Have you ever asked yourselves in an hour of meditation - which everyone finds during the day - how long we have been striving for greatness? [bangs fist] Not only the years we\'ve been at war the war of work but from the moment as a child, when we realize the world could be conquered. It has been a lifetime struggle [bang\'s fists again] a never-ending fight, I say to you [bangs again] and you will understand that it is a privilege to fight. WE ARE WARRIORS! [applause] Salesmen of north-eastern Pennsylvania, I ask you once more rise and be worthy of this historical hour. [even bigger applause as Dwight gives a horrible sounding laugh] No revolution is worth anything unless it can defend itself. Some people will tell you salesman is a bad word. They\'ll conjure up images of used car dealers, and door to door charlatans. This is our duty to change their perception. I say, salesman and women of the world... unite. We must never acquiesce, for it is together... TOGETHER THAT WE PREVAIL. WE MUST NEVER CEDE CONTROL OF THE MOTHERLAND... Audience: ...FOR IT IS TOGETHER THAT WE PREVAIL! [thunderous applause] This summarizes what is great about Dwight and the Office in general. Plus I love the whole Michael being a semi competent fatherly figure to Dwight calming him down for the big speech.

I think \"Casino Night\" is an obvious choice and I\'m sure I won\'t be the only one to suggest it. Throughout the \"first season\" of TWSS, you kept on letting your love for that episode show and even stating that it would be an awesome series finale. We get the culmination of of the Jim/Pam stuff that had been building up all season. Micheal\'s bizarre love triangle with Carol and Jan before they made her crazy. We even see Kevin\'s band! This episode was supersized and it gave the minor characters stuff to do. Truth be told I\'m surprised you haven\'t done it already.

Hey Matt I would like to nominate \"Dwight\'s Speech\" for the retro podcast. While it\'s a season 2 episode, it has a tendency to get slighted as one of the weaker episodes of the season. But it\'s one of my favorite episodes of the series. I think the prank that Jim pulls is probably the only prank he\'s ever pulled that has backfired on Dwight in a good way. The speech itself is a great satire of fascism and how easily it can form. It\'s also an episode of vintage Michael and a great showcase of the employees interacting and battling each other over the thermostat. And last but not least, it touches on Jim\'s \"what am I doing here\" arch that is still reaching into season 5. Plus, with Obama\'s inauguration coming up, it would be perfect timing to cover the ep that deals with public speaking and inspiring the masses. Here\'s hoping Obama\'s inaugeration speech doesn\'t include the phrase \"motherland.\"

You guys should do \"The Injury\"! Simply because it\'s the best episode of The Office ever. Michael burns his foot on a George Foreman grill! It\'s comedy gold! Also, it cracks me up that you apparently only have ONE picture in existence of each of you, seeing as you use the same ones for every photoshopped photo you do. :)
