NBC describes it like this: PHYLLIS' WEDDING 8:30/7:30c TV14 02.08.2007
HERE
COMES THE BRIDE - Phyllis (Phyllis Smith) regrets giving Michael
(Golden Globe winner Steve Carell) an important job at her wedding
after several embarrassing moments. Pam (Jenna Fischer) has flashbacks
of her own wedding planning when she sees Phyllis's decorations.
Meanwhile, Dwight (Rainn Wilson) is determined to catch wedding
crashers. John Krasinski, B.J. Novak, Melora Hardin, David Denman,
Leslie David Baker, Brian Baumgartner, Kate Flannery, Angela Kinsey,
Phyllis Smith, Paul Lieberstein, and Mindy Kaling also star. Man, ANOTHER party? Hope this one blows us away. edit: the more I think about this episode, the more IDENTICAL it feels in structure to "Booze Cruise." A big party outside of the office, Michael acts like he's in charge, and gets punished for it... Dwight is given a "fake" job to keep him occupied, Jim is there with someone he doesn't really want to be with, Jim and Pam seem like they might do something, but then Roy makes a big move which pushes J&P farther apart. At least in "Booze Cruise" Jim had the cojones to give Katie the boot.

I expected a mention of this in the podcast, but team Karen or not... I think you\'ve got to say that she was pretty cute singing and hopping around the stage (well put, kevin crossman). CONSPIRACY THEORY:::: \"Easy Rider\" Back in High School, Phyllis was a hottie. She was popular and all that. She was nice, but had a crazy streak that she hid from teachers. On top of it all, Michael had a crush on her, which is why he started working at Dunder Mifflin in the first place. Here\'s what the theory explains: - Phyllis\' crazy antics and \"big personality\" (dancing in \'The Fire\' and one of the Christmas episodes, her maraca-shaking at the Mexican party, etc) - It completes a whole Oedipus complex thing that Michael has that he\'s transferred from his mother to Phyllis. He\'s always saying she\'s old and has a disdain for the husband (Jeff and Bob). Plus the whole Sexual Harassment \'boner\' comment. - It would be some potential for some funny flashback comedy. Holes in the Theory: - Plausibility (not an issue for sitcoms) There you have it, \"Easy Rider\" expained in a nice little package containing no holes whatsoever....

Eva Braun. Jesus. I agree with elisa. I don\'t feel like you get too negative on the podcast. Not even Matt. ;) It\'s clear that you really like the show and have affection for it. When you criticize, or even make fun of things, I\'ve never felt like you\'ve slipped into bashing or, even worse, snide detached dismissal. And it\'s true -- you do have a conversation during which your opinions actually evolve, a nearly superhuman feat.
-
Martin, your opinions alone are not turning us off from doing the podcast. Okay? Don\\\'t misunderstand that. The question was whether or not the discussion of the show is turning more and more negative. And I don\\\'t think it is. What Matt and I are saying - to anyone who might be concerned about the overall tone becoming negative - is that if it ever gets to that point, the podcast wouldn\\\'t be enjoyable for anyone, either to produce or listen to.
-
Oh, dear. I did not REALLY mean the show sucks. I\'m not Martin -- I swear! I was joking. I LOVE The Office. I do have my little complaints, but I adore the show. If, God forbid, it really were to take such a bad turn that I could no longer enjoy it, I would have no interest in coming online and just bashing it. That\'s not fun to me.
-
Matt already said this, really, but we do sometimes worry whether we\'ve been too negative. But even in the episodes we don\'t like as much, I like to think that in the course of our discussion, we come to realize what we enjoyed. And I think that\'s an important part of the podcast. It\'s what\'s fun for us. Ultimately, we care enough about \'The Office\' to take the time to discover these things. I think these discussion threads are much the same thing. Some might feel more strongly (negatively, etc.) than others, but there\'s a good exchange, and I think it comes down to expecting the best from a show we all love. I\'d hate to see someone get turned off by the discussion occasionally leaning toward one extreme or another.
-
ian/matt: keep doing what you\'re doing on the podcast. i don\'t agree with everything you all say but we all know you guys still like the show, otherwise we wouldn\'t be listening. i don\'t think every show (of the office) has been mind-blowing, and i completely agree that people do have the right to examine aspects and critique the show\'s faults. that aside, i enjoy this board because everyone still enjoys the show and podcast at the end of the day. i think if people just want to trash the show, it sours the discussions we have. (ha, this is like \"conflict resolution\"...)
-
I hope they don\'t literaly reference the camera\'s anymore like in the injury ep last season when micheal literaly took off his microphone to go with dwight for a cat scan. I\'m fine with how things are now. Kind of a no one notices the camera\'s there except for jim making faces towards it kinda thing. I hope this doesn\'t turn into an office bashing board ethier, same with the podcast. Just enjoy it guys. can\'t wait for the new podcast
-
Yeah, the lurking camera person has always bugged me too. They caught what happened in the parking lot, then instinctively knew that Pam might run upstairs AND got there before she did? But in the end, I have to agree with Martin: If Pam knew that the camera crew knew what happened up there, how could she do all those talking heads where she pretends they\\\'re \\\"just friends?\\\" Either way, though, its kind of sloppy. My God. Martin\'s right. This show sucks!
-
oh man. i\'m totally for everyone being free to have their own opinion, being critical and disagreeing with elements of the show but...i really hope this isn\'t turning into a board where everyone is just going to be saying the show is a piece of shit on every post. i still love the show, no matter what. that\'s just my opinion. i don\'t think i\'m a sucker whose been duped by the writers. i\'d love to continue reading and posting here, but i fear i might just listen to the podcast. like conan says, \"keep cool my babies!\"

Yeah, I often wonder if the whole situation is as ridiculous as it seems watching from the outside and knowing more than either party knows. It SEEMS like, what the hell, how could they NOT know???? And maybe that\'s as complex as it gets; i.e., it\'s become ridiculous that neither Pam nor Jim knows how the other really feels. Then I try to remember that neither really knows what we see -- the talking heads, the little looks that supposedly only the camera catches. But then I still end up thinking what the hell? How could they not know??? Profound post.
-
Though still insanely agry at Pam for going \"back\" to Roy (there is still some hope that it was just a one time deal, though that isn\'t really THAT much better. . . anyway . . .) I can\'t help but agree with those of you who say it\'s realistic. I have to remember that Pam has NO experience dating. AT ALL. She\'s a 16 year old as far as her dating tecniques go. So, she may have recognized that the ball is in her court, but every time she tries ANYTHING to get closer to Jim, she\'s shot down by him. I was also thinking about the apparent lack of chemistry between them thing. I agree that since The Initiation, it\'s been sorely missing. I long for more moments like that to remind us why we want them to get together. (becase I do!)
-
There is a brief shot of Oscar in the episode when Dwight and Jim are turning back to watch Phylis come down the isle. Please no more pathetic/sad videos of Michael\'s childhood. My favorite things this ep were small moments. Working \"Vance refrigeration\" into the actual vows. Kelly not only wearing white, but a tiara too, and of course Ryan swatting the bouquet away from her. Angela\'s ensemble, perfect. Dwight in his grandpa\'s tux again.
-
Don\'t get me wrong - I am VERY frustrated with the Jim/Pam will they/won\'t they stuff and it is really starting to get on my nerves... BUT ... I actually *do* think it\'s realistic (as I type this, imagine me ducking to avoid all of the things being thrown at my head). It\'s definitely annoying to watch as an outsider... and it feels like it\'s being dragged out forever just because it\'s TV and they want to make us all tune in every week... and I want to yell at Jim and Pam because they are being so dense... but... I really do think that that *is* how it is in real life sometimes. Some people are just more timid than others... and I think that\'s hard for people who AREN\'T like that to understand...
-
Jim: Look at how happy I am to be with some one else! Pam: Fine, I\\\'ll passive aggressively fight for your affection by boinking SexyBeard over here . Besides, I haven\\\'t gotten any in few months. Jim: Watch me smiling at Filipelli. I\\\'m so glad she\\\'s here. The gladness hurts, doesn\\\'t it? Wait, how long? Pam: There was this cartoonist, um, never mind. ----- I think I just wrote fanfiction. ----- But after this episode, I love Dwight and Angela more than ever. I want some guy to tell me I look as pretty as the Queen of England one day. And Toby...yeah! If ever an episode needed LESS Michael Scott, this was it.

Since we\'re bitching and someone brought up the opening Altoid prank, that\'s my beef this week. That prank was great and very much like the vending machine or the Jello. Simple, brilliant and perfect for The Office. This season\'s pranks have been not so good for the most part. Writing to Dwight as the CIA? Sure I laughed but that\'s ridiculous and feels so \"written\". Pam is going to fake correspondences from a government agency? Right. Making Dwight think it is Friday instead of Thursday is hilarious compared to faxes from future Dwight which again is ridiculous. Don\'t get me wrong I laughed deeply at all of these but they just didn\'t feel right in the end. Even a deleted scene mentions that Jim had Dwight\'s desk shipped to Roswell at some point. That again sounds so scripted and would never really happen. Glad they left that out. Now moving Dwight\'s desk to the men\'s room was a perfect Jim/Dwight battle. So yes I loved the Pavlov dog prank and hope to see more classic Dwight and Jim. Can we assume that Jim and Dwight might prank Andy together when he returns or is that just cruel for a guy who\'s fresh out of anger management training.

i just got my entertainment weekly and there\'s a 2 page article on rashida jones. she is so pretty and she sounds really down to earth. (i\'m still JAM all the way...but i can distinguish between the actor and character...according to rashida, there are quite a few JAM fans that can\'t. i hope she\'s not getting hate mail!) that chappelle\'s show skit about the \"roca-pads\" that she did is still one of my favorites. sorry, kind of OT.

You know, I really thought this one was going to be the one. Jim and Pam, finally talking to each other, letting each other know how they truly feel. I mean, what better time to reveal passion for one another than at a wedding? Well, Jim once again proved he has too little spine to act on his feelings. He settles for the easy, as opposed to doing what he really wants, and getting what he truly desires. Karen likes him, so he gets with Karen. The easy way out! Now Pam and Roy have found a connection once more, as Roy actually acted on his feelings. Honestly, at this point, good for him! Sure, I see Roy falling back into old habits which will eventually lead towards Pam remembering why they broke up in the first place, but for now, Pam is happier. For now. All in all, a funny, sweet episode that at least provided some characters with what they wanted, while others still hid in the corner, afraid to take a chance. Damn you Halpert!
-
I\'m completely angry at Pam and Jim. For the first time, I agree with you Matt. (On this matter, anyway) Why do they deserve to be together? They\'re being so STUPID! I couldn\'t help but think of the British Office, though, with Jim\'s \"Hypothetical\" comment. Tim (the Jim character) has a strangely similar talking head in one of the later episodes. . . Hmmm. Someone on the NBC blogs mentioned that Jim and Pam wont get together until every stitch of hope for Jim, Pam and the audience that they\'ll get together is gone. Then, something extraordinary will happen and Office fans will get the shock of our lives. It gives me some hope for them, I guess.
-
\"nomi: i\'ll use matt\'s favorite comment on the podcast: \'*sigh*...I GUESS...\'\" Ha! He does do that. I think it means, \"Yeah, I guess you have a sort of weak boring point that I will unenthusiastically not disagree with.\" We can read you like a book, Mr. Call Me When You Decide To Go Italian.
-
Yeah, I\'m not really understanding the Roy hate -- here or other places. He\'s not doing anything wrong; he\'s just trying to get back someone he realizes he took for granted. Not that he wouldn\'t do that again if they really got back together, but at this point, I don\'t see why HE should be hated so much. Not that I want to see them together either, but it\'s PAM who I want to shake violently. And Jim. Oh, this is all so silly. I wrote about this in the middle of last night on here, but I watched season five of Curb yesterday and I kept thinking what a shame it is that The Office doesn\'t have more freedom -- freedom with time to make and episode, freedom with how long an episode can run, freedom with material.
-
Wow! That really was cringe worthy. Michael was out of control. Was it classic Michael? Did I miss that? Maybe not. Loved that Dwight smile after telling Michael he didn\'t enjoy keeping him out. Kelly and Meredith. The supporting character interaction was so much fun but there wasn\'t enough! Jim and Pam? Eh. I\'m not a drooling Jammer so I didn\'t feel the pain as some did. We all know they will be together eventually. It\'s hard for me to get worked up over it.
-
*gasp* nomi, for once i disagree with you. i don\'t like roy because, to me, it seemed like all he wanted to do was get into pam\'s pants. all that fake b.s. about the wedding flowers were like her prom flowers and he didn\'t even know those were the ones she picked for there wedding. just ughh with a side of ughh. sorry, i\'m all huffy, not venting at you. nomi still rules! :-)
-
gary: totally! michael was soooo cringe worthy! he hasn\'t been this bad since season 2 when he used to ALWAYS get on my nerves. did anyone else think jim looked really fake when he said he was happy with karen? he was trying way too hard to convince himself. and roy is a dickhead...did i mention that yet?
-
first of all SCRANTONICITY RULES......once again this one felt short..not really rushed but it seemed like it ended too quickly. I was surprised Bob Vance Vance Refridgerations didn\'t just tell him off some where earlier than the toast part. Did anyone else notice ryan tipping the bouquet away from kelly when phyllis threw it.. I lol\'d at that. When I realized scrantonicity was playing I was rather excited. That video from casino night was so funny but it really didn\'t bring out Kevin\'s amazing vocal talents overall I liked this one
-
Ressa: It doesn\'t seem out of character to Michael to act in the way he did at this wedding. It is how he would normally act in the office. But something about him being at a wedding doing these things just made me want to feel sooo bad for Phylis and the group. I think it was very nice that Phylis gave Michael that kiss at the end, which was very sweet of her.
-
Wow...uncomfortable office stuff I can deal with...but uncomfortable Wedding stuff just makes me squirm. All the Michael stuff at the wedding just makes me want to crawl underneath a desk. I think it has something to do with my year of going to lots of weddings this year, but to see someone make an ass out of themselves like this at a wedding is just weird. But I love Scrantonicity!! Honestly. Especially with Karen singing \"Every Little Thing She Does is Magic.\" Kevin\'s band is awesome...and his voice is somewhat decent. Ya gotta love someone who just throws themselves into Sting songs like that. I\'m earnestly waiting for Kevin\'s new cover band...Kevin and the New Power Generation. - Gary
-
PAM--NOOOOO!!! roy you stupid jerk!! arrghhh!! i\'m so pissed!!! but on a happier note...GO TOBY!!! oh my god, that made me laugh so hard! that is probably the most emotion toby has ever displayed in his life! that was the best part of the show! first impression. i didn\'t like this episode. not that funny. i\'ll let them off the hook though because the show rocks and they hit it out of the park for me 99% of the time.
-
yes!! i can\'t wait!! i had a dream about this episode of the office. really. i know. i need help. but in the dream, i took a nap at 7 but i didn\'t wake up until 9 so all i caught was the end credits of it. i must make sure never to take a nap on a thursday night...or go out drinking with my laser tag team.
-
okay, prediction: pam is going to dance with roy and jim is going to see and think they are going to get back together and kiss karen in front of her...or something. i don\'t know. if you already know what happens in this episode, don\'t post spoilers! i\'ve been really good and haven\'t read any lately so if you post them, you\'ll just be enabling me...do you really want that on your conscience? :-P i\'m hoping to see some toby or meredith gags this episode. i wonder if she\'ll get smashed at the reception.
