Well, I've only managed to watch this episode once so far, so I'm not sure what my FINAL opinion will be by the time we record TWSS #6.0, but I'll try to give some of my initial impressions...
Seems like there was some "hate" for this episode, or, if not HATE exactly, a lot of "eh, it was OK" kind of sentiment. I think my biggest let-down is the simple fact that this episode has been hyped as being all about Michael at a DIWALI celebration when in fact the actual party scenes were too few and far between. What did he really DO? Ok, he came in his Halloween costume, somehow (?) mistook "simosas" for "s'mores," askes one SORT OF inapropriate question to the Kapoors, and had fun dancing. Oh, and he also humiliated himself with Carole. But still... I certainly didn't find myself squirming at his behavior (except for that kiss/lean-in thing... brr!). I think this episode was striving to be like "The Christmas Party" or "The Booze Cruise," where the entire cast is placed inside a situation and we see their interactions with that situation as a backdrop. Part of why this episode perhaps didn't work as well as those other episodes is the simple fact that we kept breaking away from the party to go to Stamford-- we kept leaving that "bubble" and shifting over to another plot that wasn't really all that interesting (and leads to other strange questions, like "did Karen do this whole thing to have her way with Jim?" :) ). I know we are only a few weeks away from having Jim back in Scranton, so hopefully these kinds of things will work themselves out in the PS (post Stamford) era. The "outro" where Michael and Dwight performed a Diwali version of Adam Sandler's "The Chanukah Song" was also kind of funny, but really didn't seem to have a place in the actual world this episode took place in... it played more like an appreciative group of citizens applauding Steve Carell. Ah well... as I said, this is based on only one viewing... I'm sure I will find my opinion softening with repeated viewings. And Martin-- I'll take your challenge.

I agree with most that this episode seemed confused. The lack of talking heads was noticable. I did enjoy the Stamford branch storyline. I disagree with everyone that Andy is just like another Dwight. He may be odd and the brunt of most of Jim\'s jokes, but he\'s a lot more real person that Dwight who is just plain cartoonish.I can\'t wait for the battles between those two in Scranton.

I didn\'t dislike the episode, but I can\'t say it\'s one of my favorites either. I don\'t know if it\'s just my anticipation of the next few episodes, but one thought that crossed my mind was that it reminded me of the 2nd movie in a trilogy - you know how it sometimes seems like it\'s only there to set some things up for later, and like it\'s not that strong on it\'s own? That\'s kind of how I\'ve felt with a few episodes this season, but I\'m really OK with that for the most part. I agree with Joni: to me, they\'re still funny and entertaining (and I\'m finding them even more so on repeat watchings) and I feel like the second half of the season could be really great. I guess we\'ll have to see...

I guess I\'m in the minority on this one, but I enjoyed the episode... they really did pack a lot in. Ryan/Kelly; Michael/Carol; Michael/Pam (who saw that one coming???); Pam/Jim; Karen/Jim; Andy. I thought the conference scene was cringeworthy and hilarious. Michael\'s proposal was heartwrenching. And DrunkJim was extremely funny. As far as watching the Yahoo clips... I was glad I watched them... my 8yo daughter likes to watch the show and it was good to know that the Kama Sutra was going to be part of it ahead of time. Not an episode she\'ll be allowed to watch. LOL

This episode had funny parts, but it lacked overall cohesiveness, and for the first time I actually wanted to see more of Stamford. It definitely had the cringeworthiness (I feel like I\'m making up words) of Diversity Day. \"Tuna, are you kidding me?\" Andy is starting to grow on me. (TWSS?) Drunk and sweaty Jim Halpert falling into the bushes...that\'s good television. (Although in my head, Karen is becoming this evil supervillian and for a second I thought she deleted Pam\'s text message while he was sleeping. I guess it\'s good I\'m not a writer for this show.) Pam\'s missed text message made me sad, but so did Roy\'s walk in, walk out routine. That boy is hot. I wonder if the Andy and Karen \"Sam & Diane\" line isn\'t more than just Andy BS. It would solve one side of this love, what is it now, a pentagon? KAndy. Calling it.

Hi guys, I agree this ep kinda fell flat. There were some good laughs in there, but the rest was so-so. The whole Stamford segment didn\'t really go anywhere. Why were they doing shots in the office anyway? And I felt like the scene was building up to something that never happened. First I thought Jim would answer the phone and have a drunken conversation w/ Pam, then I thought either Karen or Andy would get a hold of the phone and text something to Pam who would think it was Jim. Then at the end I thought for sure Karen was going to take advantage of Jim, like maybe that was her plan all along. But nothing happened! Maybe this is setting up for something that will happen next week. Like a cliffhanger except you\'re just kind of assuming there\'s a cliff and that it\'s somewhere off in the distance beyond the trees. :-) By the way did any one else find it creepy that Kevin said the naked Kama Sutra picture looked like Pam? (shiver)

So I know this is a bit soap opera-ish. . Obviously, Karen set Jim up to get drunk and she was going to offer to take him home. They will end up sleeping together or something very close. The next day Jim will see a text from Pam saying . \\\"I think I made a mistake. Call me.\\\" Or something to that affect. The offices will merge and Jim will be stuck between Karen and Pam. He won\\\'t want to ditch Karen because he\\\'ll feel like he used her, and he won\\\'t want to blow off Pam, because she is the one he really cares about.

I think the next few episodes will make up for the past few. Once we see Jim and Dwight, Jim and Pam, Michael and Josh. .and so on there will be so much more comedy. Yeah this episode wasn\'t so great :( But the writers ARE funny. . perhaps they are building to something bigger and I guess the price is a few little less funny episodes. ALSO, just visited Jenna\'s myspace page and that song is soo funny. I had to buy it I-tunes.
