This one sounds pretty promising-- Jim, Andy and Kevin on the links? A situation rife with comedic possibilities if I've ever heard one. From NBC.com: JOB FAIR 9/8c TV-PG 05.08.2008
Jim
(John Krasinski) hits the links with Andy (Ed Helms) and Kevin (Brian
Baumgartner) to try and land his biggest client ever. Meanwhile,
Michael (Golden Globe winner Steve Carell) sets up a booth at a local
job fair, which happens to be at Pam's (Jenna Fischer) alma mater, to
find "the best and the brightest" for Dunder Mifflin's summer
internship. Rainn Wilson, B.J. Novak, Leslie David Baker, Angela
Kinsey, Creed Bratton, Oscar Nunez, Kate Flannery, Mindy Kaling, Paul
Lieberstein, Phyllis Smith and Craig Robinson also star.

Will Jim and Pam stay in Scranton, or move to Philly? Pam has obviously had her fill of Michael’s obnoxiousness and is ready for a new job. Jim is uncomfortable with Ryan’s threats, and was nervous about making the sale on the golf course. (Not to mention, he’s actually “trying? for the first time in his Dunder Mifflin career.) Will Jim and Pam move to Philidelphia so that Pam can go to art school, and Jim can become a Philadelphia sportswriter, like his Second Life persona (Episode 58, Local Ad)? It will be interesting to see how Jim reacts, if Pam decides she wants to follow the art school track… While she was engaged to Roy, he discouraged her when Jan encouraged Pam to pursue a graphic arts internship with corporate in NYC (Episode 21, Boys and Girls). Jim encouraged her then; how will he react now? Several times this season, we’ve seen Pam and Jim’s relationship contrasted with her engagement with Roy. How will the season end? Can you say, “cliffhanger??

Thank god for a PB&J moment! I re-watched the kiss three times and my husband re-watched Andy fly out of the golf cart numerous times. There was some good stuff for everyone. In general, however, this episode was okay. My favorites: -Jim finally has his confidence back (Jim and Pam both moving to NY spin-off?)! -The school stuff was kind of boring except when Michael said on the sly that Pam was a nice person and a good artist and Oscar breaks in with \"Why won\'t you tell her that to her face?\" That was cute. -I loved Angela standing in line behind Dwight to use the copier when there were only the two of them in the office. Here\'s hoping for a good season-ender.

This episode had a lot of potential, but ultimately ended up falling flat. I feel that if this was in the middle of the run, it might have been better. However, it seemed like they sacrificed laughs in order to set-up for the season finale. The Dwight and Angela scenes were pure nothingness and were there to set up a possible reunion of Dwangela. The episode also focused on possible trouble for Jam showing that Jim has a newfound dedication to his job while Pam might want out. At the Golf course: Andy crashing the golf cart was a lame gag and I know that the writers are better than that. I also thought Kevin\'s listing out of what they could bet on was a little overboard. I did like, however, Jim\'s new sense of actually caring for his job. It will be interesting to see how this carries out. At the job fair: Michael\'s behavior at the job fair evoked feelings of his actions toward Pam\'s landlord in \"Chairmodel\" and his irritating behavior at \"Phylis Wedding.\" However, I thought that Oscar\'s response of dismay to Michael\'s claim of what he would never tell Pam to her face was great.

what did you think of the deleted scenes? I am so happy they were kept out....Michael was so stupid and annoying. It wasn\'t even good annoying, like Jim. Anyways, I loved the promo clip on the nbc website with jim and dwight. Lastly, I felt that this episode wasn\'t that great purely because it was all set up for next week. If they hadn\'t had the strike (i support the WGA), then they could have had this set up broken down into different episodes. One last thing, Dwangela. Do you think they are over? People have been saying that, but angela was checkign dwight out by the copier... Oh and congratulations to Angela Kinsey!

I think the reason Pan says she doesn\'t know the programs even if she knows a little is her terminal lack of confidence. And on the subject of the MANY plot holes, what does Michael think about Jim\'s probation? He has to have some reaction and he must know about it. OK episode but I loved \"She\'s an excellent artist and a wonderful person but I\'ll never tell her that.\" \"Why?\" Maybe Michael\'s increased Pam abuse is a sign they are setting her up to quit at the end of the season.

Am I the only one who actually thought the blisties thing was funny? I really thought that comment about how it was not really funny, but actually incredibly painful was hilarious. I didn\'t care for the bleeding nipples as much during fun run though. Maybe this explains why Andy hurt his hand so viciously when flipped out & punched the wall. Sensitive body, perhaps. No wonder he had anger issues! I agree that Andy is a one-note character, & I really wish we\'d seen him grow. He had great potential...let\'s not forget his serenading on the phone to Angela. When Andy is good he is good, but he needs to be more human. Ed Helms is way too talented to be wasted, even though I found the crashing into the sand trap to be hilarious.

Two quotes from previous episodes sum up \'Job Fair\' for me: \'It\'s just nice to win one,\' and \'Let\'s hear it for the boy.\' Big thumbs up from me - I give it an A- (No, Kevin, you are not the only one who liked it :)). My thoughts: 1) After weeks of getting sand kicked in his face, Jim owned this episode. Assertive without being pushy and obnoxious, he is proving to be an excellent salesman with just a minimal exertion of effort. I was worried that he would lose the sale with his usual agreeable \'that\'s okay, I understand\' attitude. But his persistence showed just how much he has grown since Diversity Day, when he let Dwight cherry-pick the sale that accounted for 25% of his annual commission. And his triumphant embrace of Pam at the end was awesome. The writers are doing an excellent job developing the arc that began back at the end of Season 2, when he decided to grow up, stop pranking Dwight, and pursue career development via the job at Stamford. He is embracing the leadership path whole hog, as opposed to the minor \'be better and more liked than Michael Scott\' efforts we saw in Survivorman and Night Out. He is thriving on the carrot and stick strategy, confident because of his wonderful relationship with Pam, but kept in check from the \'verbal warning\' meted out by Ryan (I loved the scarcely concealed contempt in his \'you remember Ryan, he used to be a temp here?\' line). 2) As with Jim, Pam seems to be continuing on the personal development track that we first saw with her breaking off the engagement with Roy, taking art classes, and doing artwork for Dunder Mifflin Infinity and Great Scott productions. She is clearly tiring of her lowly role as Michael Scott\'s gofer, and it was nice to see her seriously consider a graphic design position, and possible relocation. She displayed the same disgust with Michael that we saw in Season 1, except now is taking steps to deal with it. By the way, I agree with Kevin M – that graphic designer at the end totally looked like John Krasinski with \'Eddie Murphy-as-the-old-Jewish-man-in-Coming-to-America\' makeup I gotta agree with TWSS Matt that the Pam and Jim engagement at the end of the season will probably not happen, just because it is too predictable. As much as she loves Jim, he is a reminder of the humdrum, stagnant Dunder Mifflin world that has held her back for the last 9 years. I am thinking that she will initially rebuff his proposal, her bags packed for a new career in NYC or Philly, and then at the last moment he moves as well. We shall see, next week. 3) As much as I love Steve Carrell, the Michael character is becoming a bit of a cliché. For the last few episodes, we\'ve seen the \'Michael acts like an ass, Michael has a critical moment, Michael redeems himself, and then blows it once again\' formula play out repeatedly. His insecurity and poorly-executed jocularity this episode was very similar to that in \'The Convention,\' with poor Justin replacing the Blackberry mascot as the object of his stalkery. Judging from his incessant and highly inappropriate, Season 1-esque abuse of Pam, he has clearly learned nothing from the dressing down he got from Stanley last week. That said, his verbal and non-verbal admiration of Jim was a nice scene. It is clear that he regards Jim as a true friend, and respects him greatly, as opposed to his man-crush on Ryan and his lapdog following of Todd Packer. 4) Ed Helms\' Andy Bernard character has been unfortunately dying a slow, painful death, and added very little to this episode. Since his return from anger management, he has become a one-note \'William Doolittle, a.k.a. Will Do\' character, sucking up to Dwight and acting like an all-around jackass. Crashing into the sand trap made me laugh, but on a \'guy gets kicked in the groin\' level. The disgusting palm \'blisties,\' over-the-top \'good-natured\' Ivy League ribbing, and slurping beer through a straw gags failed pretty badly. I smell spin-off. 5) I think I foresee a slow return of Dwangela; I loved their minimalist interactions, that are so typical of ex-couples trying to maintain a semblance of civility, followed by a torrid scene with some Marvin Gaye in the background.

I might be unpopular with this proclamation, but I thought \'Job Fair\' was the best episode of the season! \'Thursday night Cat\' (or Friday morning Cat as I\'m in the UK) really loved it. It seemed pretty season two-ish to me. Not a lot happened as such, but I like the subtle. I laughed out loud at Creed\'s \'Pumpkin, its Creed..\' chat - just enough Creed to make you appreciate it. I thought Michael was toned down a little but still a complete tool which is Steve Carrell at his best. Andy\'s blisters? Blah. Everything else: Awesome.
-
Great deleted scenes! Last week should have cut out the Rodney dangerfield respect thing, but this week, they should have included both deleted scenes. It was funnier & better to have Michael actually not looking like a total loser, yet still not being able to quite communicate what he wants to. Sadly, except for those fans committed to view the deleted scenes, nothing about the probation makes sense. Now we know that it is a result of Ryan\'s jealousy & not Toby\'s plotting. Very funny scene with the top not going down...is Ryan turning into a combination of Michael & Jan (michael being a loser with a messed-up convertible top, & Jan being a psycho business failure)? I think the setup for Jim to be in trouble & fighting for his job is the best plot twist in a long while. I think it will bring us back to cheering for Jim again like we did before he & Pam got together (which is still awesome & not overdone by the way!).

\\\"I would rather live jobless... on a beach somewhere... off the money from a large inheritance... than have to work in any one of these crapholes...\\\" Michael\\\'s cluelessness was over the top in the episode, but that was funny! Andy\\\'s blisters were just a lame replay of the not-funny chafed nipples business in \\\"Fun Run,\\\" and then the golf cart accident reminded me of him falling into the lake in \\\"Beach Day.\\\" Way too much of this kind stuff with him, and it\\\'s silly stuff that is beneath \\\"The Office,\\\" IMO... That said, Jenna Fisher had some really, really nice, subtle moments that I loved, and Jim trying to make it work on the golf course was a good twist. His opening line about how he was going to do something he\\\'d never done before -- \\\"try\\\" -- was great. And I always like to see some smooching between those two, because I\\\'m girly that way...
-
You go Jim! Glad to see him taking some initiative for once and getting the sale. This is the first time we\'ve actively seen Jim pursuing a client since last season\'s romp with Dwight, so it was about time. The episode overall was pretty good, although Michael was impossible to sympathize with. I agree that the deleted scene would have added to the job fair perspective as a whole, however some might have seen him giving the paper away again as too anti-Pam. Speaking of Pam, will we see an attempt at a long distance relationship for next season as she tries to pursue her dreams in Philadelphia or New York? Tough call, but it would be interesting to see how the writers pull such a situation off, and whether or not it would lead her back to Scranton, possibly as a graphic designer for Dunder Mifflin Infinity? Hmmmm...
-
ok, now that i\'ve slept on the eppy, i feel okay making a post. just because we didn\'t *see* dwangela \'doing\' anything in the alone time at the office... doesn\'t mean they didn\'t \'do\' anything!!! *hmmmm* michael is a pud. \'nuff said. go jim go! this boy can doing nothing wrong in my eyes. i\'m wondering if we\'ll see his big talk with pam\'s parents in the finale? great cold open - dwight\'s horrible digs and \'what college did you go to, mike?\' andy, andy, andy. first the nipples, now the blisties. i too hated golf lessons... but i didn\'t my \'knot on\' with the sailing club. LOL!!!! overall a 5 for me. and has me torqued for the finale! -migraine worker lara

I enjoyed the episode even if it wasn\\\'t that funny I still was engaged and wanted to see what was going to happen next. I think some of the problem is that the writer\\\'s strike has forced the episodes to be heavier in plot and character development than they would have otherwise been in order for them to complete the story arc for the season. I am thoroughly enjoying Pam\\\'s evolution in character. She has been on fire since breaking her engagement with Roy and who knows where it is going to take her. You are right that the writers put themselves into a corner here - Michael was such an outrageous jerk to her this episode and there is this golden opportunity out there beckoning - how can she possibly remain at the office? I\\\'d be so disappointed for her if she stayed, yet I don\\\'t want her to go. I enjoyed the tension between dwight and angela. The first time i watched it, i was on the edge of my seat with tension waiting for something to happen, and, of course, nothing happened. My imagination however kicked in at the end and wondered about what could happen between them in the elevator or in the parking lot and I wished I could have been in the elevator with them. Dwangela began very covert and it wouldn\\\'t be a stretch to imagine it being rekindled covertly.
-
I liked the episode...or at least most of the episode. I felt that the weakest part was Michael was back in the uncomfortable creepy mode for this episode but perhaps that will not be as bad on upon the re-watch. Although Andy was more of a prop this episode, but I have to admit that I lol\'d at the golf cart wreck! I\'m pretty sure that Andy & Kevin were picked to go on the golfing trip because they have played golf (or occasionally do play). I also don\'t see a problem with bringing a cross section of people to the job fair that could actually describe what they do. I actually felt more satisfied with this episode at the end than last week\'s (Did I Stutter\") because the build-ups toward the season finale were hot and heavy. The Dwangela storyline was all about subtleness, but I expect big stuff to happen next week. Although I definitely see how it could be a bit out of character for Michael to have such a plain booth, (especially since he is such a fan of \"shwag\") I can follow where the writers were coming from with him having a very plain booth. He absolutely thinks that Dunder Mifflin is the greatest place and that those students should be honored to work there all summer for free. On top of that he could have been hindered by having a very limited budget to recruit a summer intern.

Last night\'s episode... Good but not great I was hoping that with everyone having vacated the office, we\'d see some Dwangela moments. Then again, they were never a couple to knowingly do anything in front of the cameras. Some great PB&J moments. Hilarious that Michael wanted some up close and personal moments while PB&J were making out! The lone funny Michael moment of the episode IMHO. The final moment of the episode...harbinger of things to come? Personally, I would like to see the two leave Dunder Mifflin and Scranton and head towards Philly, so they can pursue their sports-writing and graphic-design dreams. Question: How can Michael tell that the paper was NOT DM? Do all DM paper carry (obscene) water marks? I\'m getting mixed up on whether or not DM manufactures the paper or simply ships out paper? Don\'t they carry Hammermill paper (from The Convention)? Does DM simply rebrand the paper?
-
Where was Toby? He would have never approved of everyone leaving work, but he was completely gone this episode. It makes sense that Michael wouldn\'t bring him to the Job Fair, but where was he? Maybe he pretended to be sick on Job Fair day like Oscar did on spring cleaning.
-
While I agree it wasn\'t the funniest ever, I really liked this episode. I like taking some time to do some smaller character work, and it really made me feel that they\'re building to some big things in the finale. I appreciate how low volume the emotional stuff was- old school real The Office. Pam thinking hard about what she really wants from her job, Jim stepping up, even if it involves putting himself out there, Dwight and Angela\'s simmering tension. It all seems real, and not contrived like the triangle crap last year. Of course I could have done without the broad Andy comedy. But that is ALWAYS true.
-
After not really liking the past two episodes, I was really wary of this one, and was pleasantly surprised. Though it wasn\'t full of big laughs, I liked that this one wasn\'t jam packed full of action. Overall I really liked it. Seeing Jim actually care was a nice change, especially since it paid off in the end. (I think he gets some sort of extra backbone when he approaches people in parking lots) Especially pitting that against Pam looking for jobs outside of DM. I LOVED Dwight and Angela sitting in the office together. It\'s so nice to see them being civil to each other... I have hope for Dwangela! I guess the only thing I didn\'t like was how much of a creeper Michael was. I\'d steer clear of the DM table, too. Especially when he was really close to JAM during their celebratory make-out. Icky. Overall nice episode and I have a feeling a lot of the episodes would have been at this pace if there wouldn\'t have been a strike. I would have been perfectly fine with that, though I\'m sure many would have wanted more progression.
-
Alright episode. It was solid, if a little easy on the laughs. Finally nice to see Jim do well finally, and be the earnest, nice guy that we used to see. It seems like they\'ve painted themselves into a corner, though... Pam wants to start with her graphic design, which makes perfect sense for the character. Jim is accustoming himself to the job, but Michael\'s speech about Jim being good at anything he\'d try to do makes it seem that if Pam went, Jim would go too - Because without Pam there, Jim doesn\'t have anything tying him to Scranton. It doesn\'t make sense for Jim to stay in Scranton at a job he only just started trying to do, and let the person he\'s planning on marrying go off somewhere. He would absolutely go with her. But you can\'t write them out of the show! So they have a problem! How do you take your two most likable, normal characters out of the show without killing it? The spinoff starring the two of them would absolutely be a failure. I\'m wondering what you\'ll do next, writers.
-
Hey TWSS Matt I know you have a tendency to love episodes the regular fans aren\'t into (and vise versa), but please don\'t say that this was one of your favorite episodes, because tonight\'s ep was probably the most laugh free episode of the entire season. Not bad, per se, but just a lot of setting up and exposition of characters for the finale. At least \"Beach Games\" had tons of funny moments to keep things going. Some nice moments were peppered throughout, but ultimately any big turning points were seen coming a mile away. Let\'s hope the finale lives up to the hype.
-
Two things I want to bring up 1.In Beach Games Pam made a big decision in Job Fair Pam\'s considering to make a big decision. 2. You wanted Jim to care about his job and he is also by my count Jim\'s only played about one or two pranks this season so I think it does show some more commitment from Jim. Plus once again Michael had almost had redempition with that talking head but then he ruined it with that wierd ass yeah kiss her real good that to me was the equivalent of dancing on the grave. I wanted to tell michael this, \"good lord michael that level of creepiness belongs to either Creed or Toby.\" Overall I give this episode a B.
-
I guess I\'m the only one who liked this? Or, at least I loved the Jim/Pam stuff so much it made up for the lame Michael storyline. And, though I am not a big Dwangela fan, I really liked this storyline and setup for next week. New York or Philadelphia... I\'m sorry, but I\'m sticking to my JAM spinoff theory. This totally confirms it!
-
Doesn\'t it feel like nothing happened this episode? Feels like everything sorta just was all ready to happen but then went into limbo & went nowhere. Michael was really stupid & insulting to Pam, & it felt out of character to have him just wanting to impress people with one stupid piece of paper. I would have expected him to bring out some loudspeaker & start rapping or trying to be overtly impressive, giving out...Dare i say it...GIFT BAGS! It was nice to see Jim not screw up. I like seeing him successful & I like the twist that we now have a reason to root for Jim again beyond just \"getting the girl.\" It was also nice to see some nice kisses between Jim & Pam. Not very funny, but other than Jim\'s sale, nothing seemed to really happen this episode...disappointing. We are set up for some big stuff...Jim locking up his job & Pam wanting to move? Interesting setup at the end.
-
I loved the open! It was hysterical to hear how Michael planned to inject some young blooded interns to \"euthanize\" the office. This episode was not a very funny in my opinion. I thought that I\'d have more laughs considering that Jim, Kevin and Andy were out on the golf course. Andy\'s blistered hands didn\'t provide the humor I thought it would for those golf scenes. It seemed a bit too contrived for my liking. I did take Andy\'s golf cart crash and line \"I fell in the sand trap\" to be almost metaphoric. Everyone seemed weighed down and \"stuck\" in this episode. Dwight was stuck in an uncomfortable silence with Angela, Jim was stuck in over his head with bagging the sale, and Michael stuck trying to obtain an intern. I felt more frustrated than entertained with all of it. The celebratory moment between Jim and Pam was nice, until Michael\'s need to feel included in anything successful that day, made him the sad figure he always is. Again as I said: not too many laughs for me. Crede\'s \"I finished my work months ago.\" line was probably my biggest laugh. I also liked Michael\'s \"Thank you Dateline.\" But yet.. he states that you have to look beyond glasses to see the hottie underneath the glasses? This is after he was completely repulsed by Pams\'s glasses in the prior episode? He is so completely a walking contradiction!!
-
I tend to think it\'s a bad sign when the episode ends and I can\'t remember what\'s been going on for the past half hour.Any one of the three actionless plotlines would have worked in a normal episode, I think, but combined they just made for a lot of sluggish meandering. Maybe they were trying to contrast all that with the liveliness at the conclusion, but I don\'t think it worked. I did like the fact that we may have gotten a tiny hint into Michael\'s mind, however. It was nice to discover that he *is* able to recognize Pam\'s skills and value as an employee, and that made the fact that Michael thinks it\'s appropriate to brutally insult Pam to her face despite this is telling. Telling of what, I am not sure... but I appreciate that there may be a method to Michael\'s madness. Finally, that was some pretty pungent irony, if you ask me. Jim finally seems to commit to Dunder Mifflin--just as Pam seems ready to pull away. Ouch.

Couple of large nits to pick... Stanley walks out of the office right after having nearly getting in serious trouble? I dont\' think Dwight\'s emergency takeover plan could have done squat to help Michael last week unless Mose really intimidated Stanley. Good Dwight line (I\'ll tell on you), but otherwise a weak & crappy night for Dwight (guess he wont\' be assistant to the President McCain if he can\'t handle the office! Lousy teaming up of Kevin & Andy after a great teamup a few weeks ago. A massively wasted Dwangela moment... Why are Kevin & Andy on a golfing round on a workday with Jim who\'s on probation? What does probation even mean? Good Daryll line about \"what college did you go to, Mike?\" but if he\'s the man, why couldnt\' he work to recruit some kids to intern? Another good line about \"yeah, the booth is lame without it (the piece of paper once the kid wrote his name on it). Why isn\'t Michael more outgoing & dazzling with his promotion of his greatest love, Dunder Mifflin? You think he\'d be upset & outraged about his boring booth & his pathetic sign. He also shoots down the only kid interested in his booth, but then pouts that no one was interested. How does Kevin plan on making a month\'s rent from his golf game? Why does Michael send his sales people out golfing & sitting around the office (Phyllis & Dwight) but then take an accountant & the warehouse guy to recruit interns? & why send/allow an accountant (Kevin) to go on a golfing sales call? It was just a sad, slow, limbo episode except for Jim\'s great success, which I have been cheering for ever since he flopped the birthday party thing on survivor man.

Folks, if you have comments about this episode of The Office, please feel free to call the Frat Pack hotline at 206-666-FRAT. If they are interesting and we have time, we\'ll see if we can play some on the next TWSS podcast. This is an experiment, no guarantees, etc. :-)

Anyone notice that we haven\'t seen Angela stand up the last few weeks? Now this episode she\'s noticeably refusing to get up from her chair to abandon work. Good job on subtly hiding the pregnancy...only the Office obsessed would notice! This sure beats having her hold large teddy bears & grocery bags like they did when Phylicia Rashad on the Cosby Show got pregnant.
