Well, here we go folks-- mere hours away from the new episode, penned by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, creators of the original UK "The Office."
Which of the new employees will be proven to have a "criminal" past? Only time will tell! EDIT: Watching now... Uh oh. EDIT 2: Flenderson FTW!

Nomi: I think the fact that Pam couldn\'t even call up Jim and tell him how she felt and how even now she keeps hiding her true feelings about pretty much everything is one of the things that makes Karen so likeable. She said flat out she was into Jim and then next episode they were together. By not ever expressing how she really feels, Pam is pushing herself out of a Jim/Pam relationship.
-
Nomi: Yeah, I\'m not saying I dislike Pam or anything. I\'m still rooting for her and Jim to get together obviously. I personally get frustrated by her inability to be truthful to Jim, herself, and even us (the documentary crew. It\'s becoming a little annoying, quite frankly. Karen is a refreshing character is all I\'m saying, and I hope her bluntness will spur Pam to take some initiative and win back Jim.

Nomi, I agree! This website is booming! And Matt and Ian, I cannot wait for the podcast. It\'s been a dreary two weeks without one! (Well, Thanksgiving aside, of course. Speaking of Thanksgiving, I hope you both had a good one!) Erin, I side with the realistic point of view. I\'ve already exceeded my too-long-for-my-own-good post quota this episode, so before I wax too poetical, let me just say that Pam has never been involved with anyone other than Roy for ten years. She has no idea what she\'s doing. This whole being single thing is like a crash course in adult dating. I was working on some things today and realized I had The Rainbow Connection running through my head. Before I realized what was happening, I was singing \'the ainbowRay onnectionCay.\' That song will never be the same again. . .

yes--more team flenderson members! maybe now matt and ian realize that i\'m not a freak for having a crush on toby. ;-P elisabeth: i love toby\'s faces too! and he has this kind of funny accent, like when he asks pam \"where you callin\' from?\" OT: i just saw \"for your consideration\" tonight and our other fav office cutie jim is in it, but only for about a minute. ricky gervais has a part in it too. funny movie, i would definietly recommend it! i\'ve seen \"the convict\" 3 times now and dwight with the money out of his pocket has cracked me up everytime. it\'s now my second fav dwight moment this season (well, i love ALL dwight moments) but the one that cracked me up to the point of crying was in \"the convention\" where dwight tells jim \"god, you\'re so immature!\" and does that stupid childish move to get away from him---hilarious! rainn wilson is brilliant! i have to disagree with martin\'s earlier post: the whole michael/toby fued will NEVER get old to me! especially when we have those sweet little temporary truce moments between them. at first i thought jim sicking andy on pam was mean but as soon as he explained why, i totally fell in love with him again! i sure missed the jim/pam antics. again, that\'ll never get old to me. i rationalize it this way: even though they office dynamics have shifted. they still have shitty jobs so they have to do SOMETHING to amuse themselves. i think we can all relate to shitty jobs! (though i never worked with a guy like jim...if i did i\'d probably NEVER complain about work!)...or if i worked with toby! :)

\"So Pam would find it \'cute\' that Jim sent a Andy over to hit on her in amazingly ridiculous fashion?\" Of course my opinion hardly matters in the world, but yes, I think she would think it was extraordinarily funny. Pam and Jim\'s relationship is pretty much founded on pranks (usually in the general direction of Dwight but no matter. . .) and the moment she realizes it\'s a prank from Jim makes all of the rest if it meaningless. Plus, I think she recognizes that it\'s pretty funny. I would definitely find it funny if someone did that to me. Especially if the guy sang to me like that. Maybe I\'m just easily amused. . . Oh and also, about Jim\'s looking at the camera. It\'s totally for the fan girls. I have to be honest, I\'m not complaining. ;)
-
I didn\'t have a problem with Jim\'s prank on Pam. I think that she saw it as hilarious that he\'s found a new target, and that she got to be a part of the joke. That said, my bet is that she\'s plotting her evenge-ray! Oh, and the Ainbow-Ray Onnection-Cay was too funny! I was playing a gig last Saturday night, and a guy that sat in with us played the beginning of the song, and we all followed suit through the whole thing. We thought we were being pretty clever. Who knew that Andy had already beaten us to the punch!?!

This is driving me crazy, but what does Stanley mumble about Hannah\'s baby? I can only hear \"I don\'t does.\" Maybe \"I don\'t doubt it.\" I\'m way too impatient and JAM is driving me crazy. That\'s it. I\'m turning in my membership to the JAMMER society. No more \"Stars\" by Lamar ads NBC! I liked the episode, especially the part where Michael is possessed by the spirit of David Brent. Dark, ridiculous and funny. And Flenderson...I saw a microscopic smile when he said Hey Pam...forget Jam, I\'m on Team Poby! You know what, Toby F. is one hot hr representative. My Jim crush is officially over. Him and his adorable faces. Bravo Gervais & Merchant.
-
I felt this episode was more like Season 2. JAM revolved around a prank, much like in Season\'s 1 and 2, and this was a very Michael-centered episode, also like in the first two seasons. I think a lot of fans have had trouble finding consistency in this season because the episodes themselves have gone back and forth between the JAM/Jaren romance and the craziness of the other characters. In Season 2, there were pretty much four JAM-centered episodes (Booze Bruise, Injury, Casino Night and maybe The Dundies.) This worked great because they could focus on the office and Michael all the while sneaking in the JAM subplot. In this season, it has been all over the place. Season-long plot lines have become the dominant feature of the show, and pure comedic episodes are becoming rarer and rarer. I really liked this episode because it was pretty much a pure comedic episode in the style of the UK version. This obviously makes sense since Gervais and Merchant wrote it. So, to sum up, Nomi is nuts.

I honestly think now that everyone (and by everyone, I mean Jim. ;) ) is back at Scranton, we\'ll be seeing more episodes that are closer to Seasons 1 & 2 in feel than we have thus far. Matt, I think you\'re right in that Season 3 is missing it\'s Plot A/Plot B format, but when I watched The Convict with that in mind, I actually felt that the episode was much more that way (Jim/Pam/Andy prank Plot A, Michael et al Plot B) than we\'ve seen thus far which gives me great hope that it\'ll all be back to normal soon. I disagree, however, that there was little \"Jam\" chemistry. Their connection is palpable and even though I chose to look at it as a romantic connection (because, let\'s face it, they\'re MEANT for each other!) even if it\'s simply a friendly connection, the chemistry was there and boy have I missed it! The fact that (as Michele pointed out) they never spoke a single word to each other and yet managed to communicate volumes is a major commentary on their relationship. Even if the whole Andy/Pam prank had been left out, the shared look in the conference room during \"Prison Mike\" would have been enough! I\'m just hoping that they throw Dwight back into the pranking mix next week. Picking on the new guy is fun and all, but I long for some good old fashioned take-advantage-of-Dwight goodness. Once that happens, everything will be right with the world. . .
-
You might not have found a larger hater of Toby this side of Michael Scott than me. Which made the scene between Michael and Toby so absolutely beautiful. It was worth it just for that. The Pam/Jim/Andy stuff was fun. But I\'m getting a little tired of so many episodes of Michael calling the troops into the conference room for a presentation. Looks like they are slowly whittling down the ex-Stamford folks. Breast pump will likely be next, which is fine as long as they keep Andy and Karen around for a long time.
-
yeah, i didn\'t \"feel\" the romance element of the episode. it was definitely awkward but still you can see the connection they have is very strong despite the fact that jim is with karen...that bitch. i liked their interaction though because they\'re kind of testiing the waters with each other and trying to figure out what their \"relationship\" is now. but we all know they are meant to be together!
-
Agreed. Michael is dim but not so dumb to actually think dementors guard prisons. But, hey, that\'s Michael. I took as him trying to make prison as scary as possible. He described prison by what he has seen on tv shows and movies . .so why not Harry Potter. It made me think back to an episode from the first season (i think). Michael has a picture of James Dean on his wall and he makes a comment \"I bet Luke Perry\'s friends .blah blah blah.\" Plus we are HP fans . . .so we appreciate the nod. Just like when Dwight makes his Lost \"What is the Dharma Initiative?\" stuff! Man! I am so happy to see Pam and Jim interacting like they did before! And he still doesn\'t want Pam to know that he and Karen are dating. . .sooo he is definitely not over Pam and not THAT into Karen. Woohoo!!
-
I\'m sure some people could have felt the difference between this episode and the rest of them, since it was written by the orginators of the whole show. But honestly? I found the whole thing just fit right in. It was nice to see that Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant actually fit right into the characters that we\'re used to. I thought the show was really freaking great. By the way, someone (who isn\'t me) pointed this somewhere else...Jim and Pam never spoke the entire episode, yet it was something I didn\'t even notice until it was pointed out. That is amazing to me.
-
Matt, I know you initially said you weren\'t going to do comparisons to the UK version, but it would be hard not to at least mention similarities in this podcast. After the second viewing, Prison Mike reminded me of David Brent\'s motivational speech, in S2. I thought it was an excellent show, and the looks between Pam and Jim made my heart go pitter-patter.
-
I\'m glad to see an episode this season that isn\'t so heavily plot-driven. And I think Jim is finally getting more comfortable around Pam again, shown by his nice little Andy prank, which is fantastic. I loved the look Jim gave Pam when she realized it was him who fed Andy all those ridiculous ideas.
-
I am glad to see the Stamford people dwindle off. The office was pretty full before the merger. Oscar is still on his \'gay witch hunt\' vacation, right? They need Karen for the whole Jim/Pam thing. They need Andy to irritate Dwight. Maybe Hannah will get fed up with Michael and quit too. Pretty funny . . the money saving merger has flopped. Michael lost money when he fired Anthony and now, DM will lose their funds for hiring a reformed convict. We laughed pretty hard at the Harry Potter stuff. It was great to see Pam have Jim to help play with Michael. I missed that! Enjoyed the episode over all!
-
whaaaattt?? of all the new people to get rid of!! i liked martin--instead we have to deal with that annoying breast-feeding mom! and karen! blaaggh! other than that..it was pretty funny, not as funny as last week. definitely more of a \"british-style\" sense of humor---i mean HUMOUR. dwigh sticking his butt out with the money in his pocket made me laugh REALLY hard though! yay jim! he kept the prank between him and pam! maybe jim can have another bbq and pam can tell karen its a surprise and to go hide in the closet...for the rest of the season.
-
It\\\'s totally Smoterich-Barr. Hannah\\\'s pumping out that breast milk for her still imprisoned lover. And she\\\'s doing it in full view in order to entice some poor sap to help break her man out of prison. Yeah, so I wrote an episode in my head during the Thanksgiving break...
