Sabai, I guess the punchline was in the previous podcast when I made my \\\"bad drivers\\\" crack. :) But I\\\'ll take that \\\"Barack Obama of Asian-Americans\\\" title. Don\\\'t feel bad, though - no one ever guesses that I\\\'m actually Asian-American. I\\\'ve heard Greek, Italian, Hispanic - hell, one time - and I\\\'m being completely serious - a co-worker said she thought I was black. (I had a really good tan that year.)
-
Martin, you\'re exactly right. I don\'t really feel like I grew up Asian. It\'s a side of my heritage that I just never identified with. And this is why I was a little hesitant to mention it on the podcast - because I knew that joke wasn\'t affecting me the same way it might affect others. But I still reserve the right to get almond eyes in plastic surgery when I get older. \"Casselberry,\" I\'ve been told by relatives, is a Pennsylvania Dutch name. So my father is somewhere in that category, I guess.

O.k. finally finished the podcast. Well done, lads! I vote YES! for more \\\"Retro TWSS!\\\" I\\\'d love to see you do either The Injury, Booze Cruise or Casino Night next. I loved your rant about the commercialization of Christmas presents. (And really, might I add presents in general?) Ha ha. I love to take people out for lunch/dinner for gifts -- then I get to spend time with them and assuming I know them well enough, we go to THEIR favorite restaurant! (o.k. bear with me here, I\\\'m not sure I\\\'m going to explain myself well enough, but I\\\'ll try.) Re: the cringeworthy jokes The Office thrives on. I always thought The Office wasn\\\'t necessarily making fun of any specific race/religion/etc. but the stereotypes surrounding them. For example, when Michael asks Karen if her dad was a G.I., they weren\\\'t making fun of children whose parents actually were G.I.\\\'s but of the fact that Michael was dumb enough to think it was an o.k. question to ask. Nomi: Yeah, I think you\\\'re absolutely right. Never been truly stalked, but close enough and it\\\'s not fun. It just struck me in the podcast that Matt and Ian brought up the idea that Jim could be considered a stalker, and I wanted to casually disagree. :)

I absolutely loved the intro. Ah, Back to the Future... Anyway, to add another thought to the Meredith discussion, there was also a deleted scene where we saw that Pam was the one who had Meredith in Secret Santa and that she drew her a picture, because apparently Meredith admires her work. When Meredith sees it, she seems really touched and actually suggests that she and Oscar (who got the drawing) exchange gifts. I thought it was a nice touch - to make her really appreciates the gift that was meant for her (and that she doesn\'t only worry about spiking her drinks, but still cares about people enough to compliment Pam on her art) I\'m looking forward to more Retro Episodes!

great podcast I thought the intro was great, lol. I\\\'m in the same boat as you Matt, I just started watching King of Queens now that it\\\'s on tbs. I love that show now, Kevin James is hilarious. Here\\\'s to hoping we get another jamacain accent from Kevin like in Diversity Day!

thanks for the podcast and extra info, a few old thoughts.... Merger: Jim was (deliberately?) cruel to Toby with the whole fist thing... is this because of his newly acquired management status at Scranton... he feels he has to hate the Flenderson too? Benihana: deleted scenes It\'s inconsistent with the rest of the episode, but Angela seems to be describing herself (late on christmas party plannin, sick cat) and mentions being dumped... what was that about? I can\'t think of any indication of this in the episode (apart from Dwight\'s potential departure to the CIA). Christmas Party (season 2): I loved Kevin\'s affinity to the beheaded tree. He decapitates it with a paper cutter, proudly holds it up like a caught fish, and then takes it home with him later, even playing with it out in the snow. I also wondered if the pics from Michael\'s camera ever ended up somewhere (blog or something). He really seems to catch some people off guard and I wonder if a lot of the party wasn\'t the cast shooting from the hip. Fire, Christmas Party, .... I always get a kick out of Phylis\' dancing. She\'s a pretty funny actress.

Ha. There was a lot of debate on the Forum about that packet of hot sauce. (Oh! You might be elderly enough to know what I mean if I say that every time I say or write \"The Forum\" I think of the California culty self awareness thing that I think was an extension of EST back in the .. . 70s and 80s and probably 90s? My best friend in high school was involved, so for a while I never heard the end of it.) Some argued that it was weird and slightly stalkerish, which certainly makes sense. It is. But I think I tried to disagree, but without any real argument except that they haven\'t shown Jim to be crossing any weird lines in any other way, so this one thing should be excused kind of like a statistical anomaly, or something. I don\'t know, I almost see it as a sloppy writing mistake, or whatever you\'d call it in writers\' lingo. I mean, we know that he\'s in love with her, that he\'s preoccupied with her, but nothing else points to any other kind of marginal behavior like this. You know? But you, on the other hand, mmmm, a packet of hot sauce? Could be trouble.
-
Still haven\'t finished the podcast (but I will tomorrow!) but I had to say this: The only difference between a stalker and an admirer is how you feel about them. Fortunately, I like Jim, as does Pam, I believe so I\'m pretty sure the hot sauce packet isn\'t stalkerish. :)

I just watched \"The Christmas Party\" again after listening to the new episode and noticed something new. The one thing about Meredith that is most memorable was at the end, but one bit that struck me was how she chose the oven mitt during Yankee Swap. Everybody else saw how miserable Michael was making Phyllis but it was Meredith who decided to do something about it and choose the mitt. So good on Meredith.
-
Yeah, I remember thinking that about Meredith too. Her single moment of shining glory during the whole series so far. Well, it was pretty good in Benihana Christmas when she kind of stood up to Angela asking her if her \\\"invitation\\\" was a threat. But I wouldn\\\'t mind if they\\\'d let her be something other than the two dimensional drunk for a minute here and there. I think Kate Flannery could handle it.

I think I\\\\\\\'m afraid of how much I love you guys . .. Thoughts/reactions in the order they occurred to me: Great Back to the Future intro. Glad to hear that Ian gets somewhat upset watching The Christmas Party. For over a year now, I\\\\\\\'ve been nearly alone in my Christmas Party discomfort. It\\\\\\\'s a huge favorite of my comrades on The Office Forum, but for me, although I love a lot of the episode, it always gets somewhat ruined by my surprisingly persistent and fairly severe discomfort with the whole Nasty Christmas turn of events. I just can\\\\\\\'t take it -- Phyllis\\\\\\\'s hurt, and the topper, the horror of watching Jim\\\\\\\'s Pam gift drifting further and further out of his reach. Even though everything\\\\\\\'s OK by the end, it gets me every time. You didn\\\\\\\'t mention one of my favorite moments: that PERFECT deadpan reaction of the liquor store clerk to Michael\\\\\\\'s question about whether he thought fifteen supersize bottle of Vodka would be enough to get 20 people drunk. And I\\\\\\\'m deeply disappointed by that omission. Luckily, though, your funniness dulled the pain of that disappointment. Matt: At most companies these days maybe \\\\\\\"they give you an e-mail\\\\\\\" for Christmas. That cracked me up. And Ian: Your sister\\\\\\\'s \\\\\\\"christmas list.\\\\\\\" Wow. Classic. Oh, and Matt, how touching that you felt safe enough among us to reveal that the podcast is your \\\\\\\"party planning committee.\\\\\\\" That\\\\\\\'s the first step to .. . . . what, the next step? Proud of you. Slither -- it\\\\\\\'s good. Worth it, in my much respected and sought after opinion. Jenna, however, has a very small role. It was a little distracting, because I had gotten the impression that she had a larger one and I was sort of waiting for her much like Pam waited for Sandra Bullock in 28 whatever. Ah . . . at least that shared experience brought me closer to Pam .. . but smart goofy funny slimy gross movie. Probably even better if you know the horror movies he\\\\\\\'s paying tribute to. On the \\\\\\\"awkward humor\\\\\\\" being a limitation to how much of an audience The Office can ever muster: I\\\\\\\'m wondering how everyone would compare it to Seinfeld. Not that Seinfeld was in exactly the same vein, and certainly it leaned much more toward pure comedy -- as much affection as you have for the characters on Seinfeld, it\\\\\\\'s deliberately designed to never really allow you to care too too much about them -- nevertheless, they certainly broke new ground in the raising of awkward never-before-talked-about-on-TV subjects. And, it WAS a hit hit, not just a niche hit. Just interested in other people\\\\\\\'s thoughts on this. OK. I\\\\\\\'m not Asian American. But I have no problem telling those complaining Asian PC police not just to lighten up, but that they don\\\\\\\'t seem to be getting it -- getting the real joke, that is. They hurt their cause by being such knee-jerk party poopers. And bad drivers. OK, that very last sentence was gratuitous. But the previous ones I stand by. And, finally, Matt, have no fear; we shall stick with you. Oh, wait, your extended riff/commentary on Christmas gift-giving was awksome.
